One half of the Triangle Adept + Raven combination, Raven tomes are one of the best choices for a mage looking to inherit a tome. While offensive mages prefer to stack damage with Blade tomes, mages with a more defensive statline can instead opt for a Raven Tome. Granting Weapon Triangle advantage vs. colorless units is no small deal, as it lets mages counter and KO the myriad of colorless ranged threats. A strong Raven tome user can score two or more clean KO’s in a single round, depending on the enemies’ team composition.
These weapons are notorious for being combined with the A slot skill Triangle Adept. These skills work well in conjunction, providing the effects of Triangle Adept to colorless as well as the unit’s normal advantage color. TA + Raven builds are relatively cheap and very effective, making them a popular choice for mages who lack speed and have stronger defenses. Often, the B slot skill for these builds is targeted at KO’ing units of the same color, such as Sword, Axe or Lance Breaker. This can make the Raven tome user potentially counter nearly three whole colors out of four. If your team has a serious weakness to colorless, Bowbreaker can be taken. Quick Riposte is another decent option, helping your unit to finish foes in one round instead of two.
Raven tomes suffer from a power reduction, weighing in at only eleven MT as opposed to the stronger legendary tomes and the Blade family. Raven tomes are a great “blind” choice and lack any in-built disadvantages. Colorless units are powerful, but many teams do not choose to run one. This will make your Raven tome user much less effective than if they had picked a Blade or other tome.
