Why are Sanaki and Julia rated so high, again?

For starters, it's worth mentioning Sanaki is my staple red on my main team, so I've "some" experience in using her. I get it, she 1HKO's Hector and Cecilia...and that's mostly it? I'm not super sold on the exclusivity of that role. Julia's the exact same, albeit green. Not to mention, both of them are pretty made out of paper (Sanaki moreso, but I'm not calling home on Julia's durability either). Lilina is basically F2P Sanaki, and Sophia isn't massively far off in the Atk department either (coupled with competent durability to boot).

I can see how the likes of Tharja, Celica and even Katarina make it through (Spd is just that good). But hard-hitting alone, for one hit and lacking durability to back it up doesn't exactly appeal "meta".

Magic soak. Sanaki has neutral 34 res, and Julia has 32.

That's a lot of resistance, and they can tank magical hits pretty well.

And, they're not really rated that highly. I mean, the general consensus is that 1: Nino and SElise are the best green mages(there aren't many other relevant green mages, unless you count Cecilia in Horse Emblem), and 2: Tharja, Cecilia, and Katarina are definitely better picks over the likes of Sanaki and Lilina.

So, why didya ask this question, again?

I think both of these characters are highly regarded because they accomplish their primary role admirably. Julia can safely take hits from blue mages and has enough offensive prowess to kill on retaliation. In a meta where blue mages are rampant, this is a key requirement for any successful arena team.

Sanaki is a hard hitting triangle adept red mage that can dispatch an awfully large list of greens, although she does miss some kills of important green units, such as Fae and ironically Julia (I'm talking about neutral Sanaki). If anything, I think Sanaki is a tier lower because of this.

Sure, when you compare these units to the ever-popular blade sweepers, you're going to be underwhelmed. But if you are building a balanced team where everyone has a role to fill, you can see the merit in more heroes.

Their physical frailty doesn't matter if you're playing correctly. Julia in particular (with Green Tome breaker) can tank every blue and virtually every green mage in the meta game and crush them either on retaliation or the next turn.

Sanaki can theoretically do the same thing but for an off meta color set.

Nothing starts a good arena match quite like erasing Reinhardt and taking no damage.

I can see Julia's role being pretty solid because of the increase in blues (and the opression Reinhardt creates). Regarding to Sanaki, I only really saw the "oneshots every green" as pretty much "just Hector, Nino and Cecilia". As one guy said, yeah, she's not countering a very arena-popular color. She's pretty key in my team through use of LD2 and QR (both on at least neutral Atk & Spd). It's actually not a bad idea to give her Desperation in conjuction to LD2 or Fury, since it allows you to take out Xander and slower bulks like that.
