Why are people so upset about CYL?

Seriously, am I one of the very few that just takes this for fun? Looking over, there are people GENUINELY UPSET about the results. God, you can be a bit sad about your character not making it, but is it enough to wish suffering on those that voted for the top 2? Heck no, chill and have fun, you're getting upset for something really dumb IMO.

It's because the results are actually schewed.
If a character reappears in multiple games (i.e. Palla, Catria, and Est for instance) there are multiple versions of the same character available for seperate votes.

Say for example, let's say Palla got 2000 votes for her Original version, but her Echoes version got 1500 and then her Shadow Dragon version had gotten 5000. Palla would place in three seperate locations on the ranking list despite in reality having 8500 total votes, this would actually earn her a higher spot than what she actually got.

Because Marth actually had a total of at least 37,192 votes in reality thus actually beating out Ephraim's 31,027 votes. THIS is why people are upset.
It's also the same exact reason why Ike held 2 positions on the leaderboard of the Previous CYL contest

I think it may be because Veronica has gotten second place, but I’m not sure.

Also, probably a part of the people that complain do it because of what has happened to Marth(split vote, I think he would’ve scored higher than Ephraim if the vote was not split).

I myself can’t complain about this. This means a free and probably strong unit once again. I just hope none of them becomes broken enough to justify a direct counter(looking at you, Brave Lyn), since I don’t like to feel forced to have one. I’ll just take my free Ephraim/Hector and be grateful.

Report

No, If Marth's Votes were not split up across 2 different games he would have clearly taken second place. It's a fact, do the math.

As for Veronica winning yes, it is abit upsetting but I can accept that she won fair and square.

Report

Because Marth *actually* has more votes across the multiple games he was in:
Shadow Dragon: 29,058
Mystery of the Emblem/New Mystery of the Emblem: 8,134
29,058+8,134= 37,192

Ephraim: 31,027

37,192 > 31,027
Meaning Marth actually had more votes than Ephraim did. Go look at the official leaderboard if you don't believe me.

No i know. Im just confused by why people want marth so badly. I feel that Ephraim and Hector are better as they aren't blade lords. I mean i like marth too but im fine with the results

Report

You do realize that *Only* Blade Lords won the last CYL and only one of them actually kept a sword.
A Brave Marth is a chance to see Marth *THE* very first star of FE, the one who kickstarted this entire series to begin with, the very First Lord of the series ever, try out a different weapon or even a new unique unit typing.
Perhaps he could have used a Wing Spear (Like his Wife is supposed to) maybe heft a large Axe, tried his hand at Archery, or even follow his Sister's footsteps and be a Healing Lord.

Report

Yeah but Ephraim and Hector are much more interesting. Have you ever played Marth's game? There was very little character development in their games. Also each of the blade lords who won last time have used secondary weapons with the exception of Roy. Marth has never used a secondary weapon ever. If Marth had won then Celica would have to be a mage again. Think of it like that. Also if on the voting list there was only one marth, that doenst guarantee thst the same number oc people would vote for 1 version of marth. That concept is fundamentally flawed as ths human mind is a fickle thing.

Report

Actually Yes, Shadow Dragon was my First FE game Ever. Surprise!

Norne was probably my favourite out of the entire game. I Also liked Wolf, Athena, and Merric.

Was pretty disappointed in how outclassed Merric and Athena are in heroes and unfortunately don't use them. (Also I don't really like Athena's art that much) And I didn't find Shadow Dragon to be dull at all actually. If I did, I would have never picked up another FE game.
But anyways Eirika doesn't use Magic in Sacred stones yet we have her on a horse as a Red Mage. I'm pretty sure that they would do something creative with Marth if he did win.

Report

Yeah, I had not done the math at that moment, but later. Sorry for that.

I feel bad for poor Marth. Not that I will complain since I voted for Ephraim once, but still, it feels unfair for the guy that started it all.

Report

Yeah.... Some people are taking it too far. Today someone threatened to poison me and kill me over being happy thst Veronica got 2nd place. Im just happy because it adds variety and did anyone even expect a character from FE Heroes to ever become a brave unit? Cause i didn't

Report

Well those are definitely little crybabies that don't need to be paid attention too. That's why I don't actually get on social media sites.

Report

I think the problem is that in this fandom the concept of opinions and free will is lost on many... Look at tumblr for instance

Who knows, maybe the person you have a conversation with is 10-16 years old. They probably just have games they play in mind and get upset about it. This isn't an insult, everyone was a kid and a little immature. One day they will have things to get upset about, like your paycheck is delayed, your car broke down, repair costs, your girlfriend is crazy, prostate exam, coworkers are assholes....

I have a feeling that it's because Camilla got second when we already have 3 existing versions of her.

Anytime there is an ability to vote for an outcome and people don't get their way, the get childish and mad and entitled and tempers flare. I honestly think it's dumb to have multiples of the same character so I understand, but at the same time, it was like this in the last CYL so if they really wanted Marth to win, they should have united and said "Hey everyone vote for this one". I mean it's not like they had months to prepare. But no, they didn't do that and because of that someone else won. I guess some people didn't want it badly enough. Oh well, too bad. Three of my characters made it: Hector, Ephraim, and Celica, so I'm happy but even if they didn't make the cut, I'd honestly find it more interesting than just simply winning all of the time (I actually voted for every single character in the last CYL). I'm surprised of the placement of other characters though, Veronica is a strange choice, but at the same time, I know I want her also. It'll be weird having a CYL version of her and not actually having her, but anytime I have to fight her I always think "Man, I really wish I had her on my team". I think eventually they're going to have her join the Order of Heroes, or at least partner with them, so maybe we'll get her there or GHB. Regardless it'll be interesting to see how they do it. Oh and by the way I did vote for Marth, so while I contributed to the winners mostly, I contributed to Marth in the same way, so if anyone has anything to say about it, I'd like to throw that fact in there! :P

Report

I'm not unhappy with the outcome but it definitely bothers me that characters are being counted in multiple instances. I mean, sure they may have different outfits or slightly different weaponry, but we're voting based on the CHARACTER not based on whether or not we like one portrayal of them over the other.

Like, if we were doing a vote of super heroes, and batman was on the list but from like, 8 different comics with different plots, wouldn't it be weird that his votes got split 8 different ways? I mean, batman is batman in the end. Idk, that part never made sense to me.

Report

Well... Perhaps batman isn't the best example because of the existence of versions that are very different like Batman Beyond or The Bat who Laughs. But I understand what you mean. Do you like Marth? Just curious because I was wondering why people like him so much and was hoping someone could enlighten me as i am genuinely curious.

Report

Guys. More people like Ephraim from ONE game than more people like Marth from MULTIPLE games. I think that speaks for itself for one.

For two. You can’t change how it’s calculated. It makes sense this way. Different Marth means different people. Even if it’s slightly different. If you’re complaining about it, saying you accept it at the end, then have you really? I mean, you’re complaining about it.

I understand you wanted this character to win, but come on. They’re gonna do it again in the future. We may not get a Brave Marth this time, but probably third time around, we’ll have Marth place first. Just like Hector placed first in this round. :) just be patient, people. And calm down.

Report

Jade, you are clearly fanboying (fangirling?) over Marth. Should the votes have been combined? A case can certainly be made for that. One I'm not opposed to necessarily. But I also like them being separate. I voted for Hector. Binding Blade Hector. Because he's a different character compared to Blazing Sword Hector. I feel the same about Leif, Marth, and every other character who has multiple appearances. I want a specific version of a character.

Also, people are equally as upset about Veronica making it and Camilla not. While their argument certainly has less merit than yours, their outrage is just as passionately toxic. I find it comical, personally.

Report

Do you all actually take offense, though? I'm not saying it's wrong to be upset by such remarks, but it IS the internet, where it is pretty much the foundation of it's culture. Being more selective is really your only means of protection in that instance. I will generally be crass and cruel, but I only do it in jest, and I do my very best to make that clear.
