What Leo's stats should've been

IS really gave this dude a refine and he's still a bad unit.

Can't even kill a green unit without a bladetome.

Also, this build is budget. Would rather run Atk/Def Bond or something else.

Maybe the problem is how people are using him. He does not have the speed to be offensive, he's a defensive/utility unit.

That's the thing. Even with his refine, he still doesn't have enough HP to take advantage of his weapon refine. At base he has 39 HP. He can get QR3 once and after that he's done. Not only that, but his attack is abysmal. Outside of QR range, he's not KOing anyone. Most mages only need 1 attack to KO him most of the time since his defenses are still middling. Not only that but 30 Res is lower than common mages, most of which run ploys which even cripple him further.

In short, Leo is a trash unit who should be demoted. His weapon refine did him no justice and should've given him a small HP boost like most weapon refines. Imagine 42 HP at Neutral on top of a HP seal, which could get him up to 45HP-47HP which is pretty good for keeping his QR3 threshold for at least 2 fights.

Let's use a simple example of 20 damage. 30% of 20 damage is 6. The foe does 14 damage. At base 39HP, he ends up at 25 HP, that's 0.641025641% of his health. QR is now useless after the first battle.

This is without adding in the opponents stats and how much damage they take after battle. Just damage calculations. If he's supposed to be baiting mages, who typically have higher Res than him with his poor Atk, he's still not killing anyone with QR3. He won't activate his Special(unless using Moonbow) until the next turn.

Imagine putting in all of this work for a defensive unit, when Arvis works as a better red tome magic tank due to his Renewal 4, ploys, and overall better stats. Also, Arvis isn't constrained to only being run as a strict enemy phase unit.

I will agree that he shouldn't be a 5* exclusive, but i think you're forgetting one very important fact.

It's a 4 man squad.

His tome stops follow ups from ranged units that have less defense than him, so with a defense boon (29 base?) and either Fortify Cavalry or Defense Tactic (35) he'll be stopping most ranged units from attacking twice, not to mention boosting his resistance by 6 from Res Tactic, or the same Fortify Cavalry buff. Ploys? In the hands of the player they are super easy to avoid.. and I mean SUPER easy. Low attack? Hone Cavalry and an attack boosting A skill.

He requires a more tactical style of gameplay rather than just the usual " Okay Leo, you hold the choke point on the other side of the map and eviscerate everything while the rest of the team leaves you behind".

And if units are doing too much damage to him, then there are literally C skills, and seals, that reduce damage taken, either by debuffing the enemy's attack or by bolstering his defenses.

>Putting too much effort towards a trash unit.

Nah. You can argue this about any character in the game but it doesn't change the fact if the character themselves are bad. No point in trying to make Leo viable through heavy team support when there's better mage tanking options elsewhere.

Unless he's a character you like, I don't think he's worth the effort. Especially when a free character like Aversa exists, who does a better job, there's no point.

The thing is, Leo is a mixed tank. Not a magic tank.
I think the best way to use him is to push as much def/res on him as you can, rather than attack. Have him buffed, with maybe a hone ect.

Just because a unit needs support, doesn't make him bad.
People seem to look at units too much in isolation.

Heavy team support.

Leo needs to be babysat to actually fill a role. Imagine having to run specific skills in order for just 1 unit to function properly? Why cripple your team to make a shit unit fill a role they should've been able to do decently with light team support? He's supposed to be a mixed tank but in Arena ranged units aren't an issue and in general play opponents have higher stats that make his refine null. Not only that but new units are constantly coming out that leave Leo farther and farther from being useable.

I'll repeat: I don't think it's worth the effort to make a unit useable, unless they're a favorites character; otherwise you're just wasting resources on a shit unit.

Brave bows are crap. They can only kill one enemy per turn, and can't do anything in enemy phase.

Armored units are completely useless. They can't move beyond one square
