What do y'all think?

I've decided to get serious in building and merging my Camilla and want to know if there's anything I can improve in her build

Change her Special to iceberg or glacies.
Her C and SS slot for Def ploy, a tactic skill or guidance if you use her in a mix team.
If you use her with fliers then goad fliers and moonbow from palla can work.

Headed in a good direction.

Are you using her with cavalry? I would probably go for drive buffs to keep the range consistent with her prf effect.

I would also change her IVs unless you want her specifically for fighting dragons, in which case I would probably still prefer +atk -def rather than +res. If dragons aren't her target I would probably take either +spd -HP or +spd -res.

And yes, switch to iceberg or even moonbow for a one-round activation.

Report

Then the only thing I have to say about the buffs is that it's peculiar to me that one is a spur and the other is a fortify.

vs blue mages I would probably recommend +spd IV using DC or +atk without. Ishtar can get insanely fast and, depending on her build and IVs, might actually survive one hit. If Ishtar gets a double on Camilla you will probably lose due to the moonbow. You should go either +atk and try to one-shot them or DC+QR and +spd IV and maybe have Xander carry drive or spur spd.

You can start by getting rid of fury, it's a garbage skill that everyone thinks is good, fury is to feh what micheal bay is to movies, what dane cook is to comedy, and what sriracha sauce is to food, only idiots like them, but will never listen to reason and blindly defend it at all times.

Make her a flier support, since she can give a fat +8 to atk and spd to flier units, shes basically the ideal flier emblem team unit. Give her drive atk seal as well for an extra 3 atk, or give her flier formation for teleporting around. DC lets her deal with mages easily since she can soak magic like no problem,

Victus since you seem to be new to our Q&A section and maybe to the game, I would suggest you look through this user's other posts before you evaluate his advice.

Nilla just to point out one thing, her axe only gives +3/+3 so with goad fliers it's only +7/+7. Still very juicy, highly recommend on any flier team.

Fury is garbage and will remain garbage until they change the way it works. You will never see "top tier" units using fury over skills that are actually good, and thats because fury is what people use when they have no good skills to give.

Report

Fury is not a bad skill. It isn’t exactly great either, but it’s far from bad. You are right that it’s basically a filler skill if you have nothing else though. Fury goes well on offensive units with “meh” bulk to survive one hit, then enter desperation zone and sweep, as opposed to the potential one-shot if using LnD. (Unless it’s a build like that Shield Pulse Raven)

Report

Fury is in the same bucket as desperation in terms of "skills that you will see maybe once every hundred of so battles in tier 20+". Only I consider desperation worse because if you don't kill your enemy on the second hit, you've likely given them enough charges to oneshot you with their special, its the same problem that firesweep weapons have, you give yourself a big fat handicap in hopes it will pay off, even though later on in the arena career fur, desperation, firesweep weapons,, etc will get replaced by weapons that serve a proper role more effectively and reliably than the aforementioned skills and weapon.

You're assuming a lot of things Nilla.

1. People can pull DC out of their butts easily.
2. People only build super merge units strictly for arena.
3. People will stupidly throw units against the enemy they cannot KO in two hits or less and have no way of saving themselves from retaliation.

Saying things like Fury is garbage is a huge misdirection. Pretty soon people will think Fury is not good in any game mode.

1. Hector has been on six banners, one of which had an 8% drop rate, and one of which had a 5% drop rate.
Legendary Hector has been on 1 banner, with an 8% drop rate.
Valentines Hector has been on 1 banner.
Thats 8 banners, three of which had boosted rates. There have been more than enough opportunities for players to get a few hectors as dc fodder.

2. The guy said he's gonna 5+10 his camilla and wanted build ideas. There would be no point in asking around if he wasn't gonna use her in the arena.

3. People DO this on a regular basis because they don't think ahead nearly enough. Recoil from fury can easily, EASILY put you in K.O. range.

Fury IS garbage, the only thing fury is good for is filling a blank skill slot when you have nothing good.

Report

All I'm saying is it does not justify Fury is strictly garbage. Yes I know it is not the best A-skill for the top levels of arena. But I still use units with Fury for arena assault. I don't need all of my HP to get the job done so the recoil damage is hardly an issue for me. And you just stated that there is a use for Fury, which is to fill in the A-slot. That still counts as something because I could use other filler A-slots like blow skills.

So people still make the mistake of not planning ahead, which is normal! The only way they can improve is to keep playing then they make less mistakes. It's not hard to look at the result of a match up but people can be hasty and not check. That's completely on negligence instead of the skills equipped.

Also just because we've had so many Hector banners doesn't mean everyone is lucky enough to get at least one. People need to accept that they can't always get what they want.

While extremely high level play is definitely a model to be pursued, highest tier arena is anything but, and the proof is that the tier 20+ is precisely where you see stuff like distant counter on prf Zelgius and Fjorm. So just because it doesn't appear at the highest levels of arena is by no means proof that the skill is garbage. (To be clear, it doesn't prove that it's good, but that wasn't my point.)

I prefer to interpret the rarity of fury and desperation in upper tier arena (taking your word on its rarity; I've never been there) using two factors:
1. SP-based scoring. Any breath skill scores better than fury; QR and any armour B-skill scores better than desperation.
2. BST-based scoring. High BST units cannot be glass cannons; they just have too many stat points. Fury and desperation are skills typical of glass cannons. Since glass cannons cannot have high BST and are usually ranged (which makes for even lower BST), the units which are most likely to use these skills are less likely to appear, resulting in the skills appearing less often. Meanwhile, steady breath and quick riposte / armour B-skills are skills often found on higher BST units - dragons and armours. They will therefore appear more often.

This, to say nothing about any other analysis you offer. Nilla and I could disagree about everything until the cows come home.

2. Glass cannons.
Glass cannons won't use fury if they have access to swift sparrow, which they should since its the most common skill in the game right now, on a whopping 9 units. A glass cannon has no need for extra defense points, which their job is to score a kill and then get out of the way. However, many glass cannons do in fact show up in tier 20+ with relative frequency, blyn being the main offender.

Besides, literally any unit in the game can show up in 730+ even dancing shigure, the unit with the lowest BST in the game, can show up there. Using BST as an excuse is stupid because the only reason to think otherwise is laziness. I've fought tons of teams since the performing arts banner that had dancer inigio and shigure show up in their teams, above the 730 scoreline. The reason you don't see things like fury and desperation up there isn't always because of bst, often times its because there are much better options available both in terms of sp scoring and utility.

I'll throw fury on a unit I have no intention of using anywhere near often, because fury is, metaphorically, paint on a wall. It's easy to get, takes no skill to use, and makes stats "look" nice, but the moment you get into a situation where its a battle of attrition and your hp keeps dropping, you're gonna wish you went with a different skill.

Report

I think there is very much a place for fury on glass cannons, especially those that are on the borderline of surviving a single counterattack before getting into desperation range or who have 30-33 res and want to boost their ploying potential. It can also be helpful if for any reason you need to take the opponent on enemy phase (ex: outmaneuvered by a horse). One relatively niche use is with AoE specials (for example, I play Felicia with growing wind), when swift sparrow doesn't boost damage on the special.

Also, swift sparrow is not the most common skill just because 9 units have it, though now that you point that out it's probably easier to get swift sparrow than it is to get fury. The red pool has so many units >_>

I personally find swift sparrow quite difficult to find a unit for, actually. Many of the units on whom I'd like to use it are probably at least as good with either fury or L&D, both of which are active on both phases. You prefer swift sparrow. Your style is different; I see nothing wrong with this.

The only other point I wanted to rebut is that "using BST as an excuse is stupid because the only reason to think otherwise is laziness." There is no argument being made here; this is flat out ad hominem. This statement is equivalent to "if you don't think BST is a mere excuse, you're lazy and your thinking is stupid." You did go on to demonstrate that dancers and low-BST units can appear at 730+, but you are nonetheless guilty of ad hominem. Moreover, you failed to refute my point, which is that fury and desperation are less common - not nonexistent - due to SP-and BST-based scoring. This type of scoring does not mean that it's impossible to get P.Shigure into 730+ range; it means that fewer people will do it, which is enough to make fury and desperation less common.

I'm not disagreeing with anything you've said Nilla but just want to point out, literally every +10 Nino I've seen (and killed) in tier 20 has Fury and Desperation on her. Its the same copy and paste build every time

Report

I'll definitely take your advice a try out the DC build but until I also have her merged pretty high, I'll probably still use the fury build for my mixed emblem
