Virion's confession

So, I finally got around to promoting Virion to 5 stars, after playing the game since a few months after launch. (No, not the original one; I waited for one with better IVs.) I promote only partly based on usefulness, more so because of who I like. I like Virion pretty well, and his art's decent. (And side note, I cannot be convinced that Virion is not Inigo's true father. Their personalities are just too similar for that not to be the case.)

Anyhoo, his confession is basically, "You should throw me away and use someone else." It was so weird. Like the game assumed I'd promote units to 5-star in the order I received them and wanted to make sure I knew I didn't have to do that.

Anyone else promote Virion to 5-star? Did you think his confession was as weird as I did?

That was odd.

Pity, because he's so fantastic.

My takeaway is "you know it's good strategy to just let me die, but you care about me so I'm flattered."

I was surprised that his stats are actually decent, even after all the power creep that's been happening. I mean, his Res is practically nothing, and his Def is nothing to brag about, so I have him Life and Death to increase his decent Atk and Spd. He's not outstanding, but he's respectable. I'll have to keep a lookout for a better weapon for him.

JUMPS IN ON THIS BECAUSE I AM EXTREMELY PASSIONATE ABOUT VIRION AND HIS EVERYTHING -

His 5* confession is one of my favorite moments in FEH because there, ladies and gentlemen, is Virion as in character as you will ever see him.

Virion is not a man who wants to be in the limelight. You scoff at me, but it’s true - Virion willingly fled his homeland to make himself out a coward so his people won’t die for him. He’s aware that it was the worst move he could have made, but he knew he had to do something. Asking them to stand down would hurt their pride. So he disgraced himself to everyone’s dismay so they would live.

Virion is doing /exactly/ what he knows best. He was the first unit you got - he wasn’t expecting you to 5* him, or care about him in any capacity. After all, there are definately better heroes, why would you waste your time on him? Not only is it a jab at the game itself and its powercreep, but it’s a testament to how Virion sees himself - not worth the effort.

His supports make it clear - Virion is selfless to a fault. Almost all of his supports save for two or three are about him helping the other characters develop. It rarely spends time on him as a character, because he doesn’t want to develop.

He just wants to help people in the background, and be gone without another thought.

So when you, the summoner, put that effort into him, he doesn’t get it. He doesn’t get why you would care about him, especially since he’s just assuming you’ll treat him like the rest - a background helper.

So you prove him wrong, that he has worth, and it’s confusing, new, but Virion likes it. But he isn’t sure how to handle it, so he feels unworthy.

And that is why I appauld IS for Virion in ths game.

TL;DR: Virion is acting exactly how he does in the game and is really confused why you think he has worth when he himself doesn’t see his own worth.

And now I decided I needed Virion to be +Atk instead of what I had at first, so now my 5-star Virion has more attack than any of my other archers, which is kind of amazing me, what with him being such an old unit.
