Viable +Spd Surtr Build?

I pulled a +Spd Surtr, which sucks. Like really, ANY other boon would’ve been fine, but no, I get +Spd. To add insult to injury, his bane is HP, which is a superbane. So yeah, pretty sure this is his worst spread hands down. But what if I had a build to capitalize on his Spd to make him possibly more god-tier than he already is? He has 20 spd naturally, so what if I give a speed tactic buff (+6), a darting stance 3 seal, (enemy phase +6), Brave Lucina speed buffs (+6), and an ally for 1 or 2 more speed points. In the end, that’s 40 speed. Add in his C-Slot, which basically adds another +8 when active. 48 speed is what we end with. Then I throw on Vengeful Fighter 3 for guaranteed follow-ups and easier special charges. So does this seem like a good build? Should I make any changes or scrap it all together?

I considered something like this back when I pulled W.Chrom undesired on a L.banner with +spd -def.

But with how high his def is and guard on his A-slot, I think he prefers to get doubled at melee range if you're using vengeful fighter.

In any case, HP is the best bane if not spd or, depending on who you ask, atk. Someone described it as an "up front" cost, and afterwards he just tanks and tanks and tanks. If a unit can get up to around 27 spd (ex: M.Grima, H.Myrrh) I would consider pushing their spd hard (especially someone like Sheena who gets up to 33 with nothing but merges). Surtr has such low spd that even with a boon he's slower than a lot of slow units on -spd, plus with defenses as high as his I don't think it even matters how much he gets hit so I'd rather invest in his res.

The way I was thinking, with his enemy phase speed specially, he could be like a pseudo- Legendary Hector since he’d be able to speed check most units, while Vengeful Fighter guaranteed a follow.... does that matter even? Just wanna be 100% sure before I build him and place him on a team

You have 51 def. That's about as much atk as most units have, and you're blocking their specials. Do you care if they get an extra hit?

Push his def by another 9 points, and even a number of swords won't be able to scratch him.

I... don't really see the point of changing what works off his base kit.

Surtr is THAT terrifying to face. Bad IVs won't put a dent in that in the slightest, barring a -atk one, which you don't have.

You could try running VF3, but WF3 means you don't get immediately murdered by red units that look at you funny, especially when factoring Surtr's Menace and Sinmara. 20 damage AND debuffs? That usually only takes one little cherry tap to finish the job.

It is admirable, though, that you're going for full speed on him. 40 speed basically does the same job as WF3, just with faaaar more babysitting and guaranteed doubles when factoring VF3.

lol thanks, I like to try and bring out the best in whatever IVs I get for unit, and I like to try and have unique builds/teams, ESPECIALLY on units who have “that one build” or are just annoying/busted

There's a good amount of armors that could make use of a Spd boon.

Surtr is not one of them.

Just pretend he's neutral and use him with his basekit.

Surtr's Spd is 100% unsalvageable. It could be 0 and he would play exactly the same. Just accept that your Surtr has 4 less HP than a normal Surtr, and thus is only on par with 175 BST armors.
