Thunder Armads skill interactions

If my unit has 5 more speed than L!Hector and a skill like Quick Riposte equipped will Hector get doubled by my unit if he initiates even with his Thunder Armads ability to prevent doubles in effect? Basically does thunder armads only stop one follow up ability?

Thunder Armads does stop one follow-up ability from skills.

For example, if your L!Hector fulfills the effect of Thunder Armads, but the enemy that attacks him carries Axebreaker, then the two abilities cancel; then, follow-ups will still occur if either unit has 5 Spd more than the other.

In your case, if you initiate with L!Hector and the enemy carries Quick Riposte, the effects cancel out, and the enemy's ability to perform a follow-up will be determined by its Spd stat.

Pretty much any decently fast Armor with Bold Fighter would be able to cancel out Thunder Armads' effect, especially with so many people picking -Spd as the preferred bane on L!Hector.

Funny how L!Hector and Zelgius with Steady Breath are possibly the best couple of units in the game together. I've Ally supported them on my Fire Arena core, and Zelgius just proceeds to annihilate everything on the first engagement.

This is a good question. As far as im aware, things like wary fighter will only cancel out on doubling effect. This means that using QR B and S slots can still double against a unit that initiates with a wary fight-like skill. Now, i'm not sure if natural doubling and then having qr will ignore thunder armads, because i've never seen that interaction happen, but I feel that if double qr can bypass wary, then qr and outspeeding should bypass thunder armads.

For reference, equipping normal hector with qr on S with normal armads equipped and wary fighter, wary fighter will only negate one qr effect, but not the other.

Yeah, I think thunder armads does work like wary fighter without the negative on himself. I wonder how a +10 +att Lyn with eff refined weapon, brazen att/spd, wrath 3, def ploy, and Luna would fair against a L!Hector since her weapon effect should cancel the wary fighter and her speed should allow a double. She might win the matchup even though L!Hector is terrifying to almost every unit

Generally, skills that say "guaranteed follow-up", "automatic follow-up", "cannot make a follow-up" just increase or decrease the number of follow-up attacks by 1 (and any number greater than 1 gets rounded down to 1 at the end). In this case, Thunder Armads means -1 follow-up for his opponent and QR says +1, so the spd check will decide.

The best illustration is the double QR + wary fighter on original Hector. At 80% or higher HP, Armads says +1, wary fighter says -1, QR seal says +1, so he will double. However, if his opponent has Thunder Armads effect active or wary fighter or something like that, then that says -1 so Hector would need to win a spd contest to double. Winning the spd battle will result in Hector doubling even if his opponent uses axebreaker. As for his opponent, axebreaker gives +1 follow-up attack and Hector's wary fighter says -1, so whether his opponent will follow-up is again a question of speed.

Another example is spd ploy and/or +spd IV on brash desperation Micaiah to break wary fighters. If brash assault activates, Micaiah gets +1 follow-up attack. Wary fighter says -1. If the spd contest says Micaiah gets +1, then she doubles regardless of wary fighter, desperation activates, and the wary armour is usually toast.
