Thoughts on Lon'qu refine?
His weapon is named Solitary Blade and one of our newest units, flora came with atk/res solo, but the special refine for Solitary Blade is just life and death 3, is anyone else disappointed by this? I was hoping he'd get atk/spd solo as a special refine

Nephenee has a role that she does better than any other lancer in the game, and thats killing armored units. Plus, shes only base 35, shes not that fast by todays standards at all.
Mages have more utility than lonk and raven due to bladetomes and raven tomes.
And even then, raven has 5 more attack than lonk, who sits at 29, onyl matching ravens base attack AFTER his lnd refine.

If we want to talk niches, I would say there are a few openings for Lon'qu:
- he's maybe slightly better at the shield pulse build than Raven and Karla due to higher HP
- he can actually be faster than Karla if he wants for countering hyperspeed units specifically. If he goes +spd double L&D, he will literally double all of:
Ayra+spd using slaying edge+spd and spd+3 seal unless she uses L&D or fury (but DC and swift sparrow are most common)
Mia+spd unless she uses L&D or fury with spd seal
Karla+spd using fury when spd wave is not active (or panic, because he'll panic her if he hasn't already gotten into a fight)
B.Celica with any A-skill unless she has both Royal Sword and +spd
flying Tiki+spd using any A-skill unless they're stacking goad fliers on her, in which case it's fair to expect to buff Lon'qu as well.
All of these at equal merges.
- he's red, which means, banal as it is to say, he's better off against reds than Raven is, even if Raven has 5 more atk.
- he's easier to merge than Karla, Ayra, B.Celica, and Mia

I've literally never seen shield pulse used on anyone other than fjorm. As fun as theory crafting defensive builds, theyre never used, and never will be used, because you can run a half defensive build with all the benefits of an offensive build easier.
Plus, shield pulse is garbage. A better way of doing things is with a slow unit that runs pavise and deflect melee along with vantage.

Guess you haven't been checking on what's out there then? Shield pulse Raven has been a thing probably longer than I've been in the game. People have used it for months, and it's been done on Karla too. YouTube's Dire Thunder actually expressed a preference for this build in his video about Karla not long after her release.
Here's another video https://youtu.be/egdKAWHgjeo Omni H chooses good opponents to showcase, because desperation builds won't work against Myrrh or opponents he needs to take over multiple rounds such as bulky reds which he can sometimes beat by starting on enemy phase, even if they could normally OHKO him.
And I've suggested the pavise + heavy blade + vantage + deflect melee idea on A.Tiki and M.Grima before. I find the Raven or Karla shield pulse builds more convincing because they will often get through their targets in one round whereas the single hit from A.Tiki or M.Grima is often more of a bid to not die, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you're in the upper extremes of arena and you're trying to chip people to help the bonus unit. But vantage and deflect melee don't score that well.

Expecting his weapon to have a Solo effect just because of the name similarities was honestly kind of silly on everyone's part. The terminology differs for each language, there was no way he was going to get a Solo effect just because it fit the English name of his weapon.

As seen by Solitary Blade and Draconic Poleaxe, I think the names of the weapon aren't particularly relevant to it's effects.
And, personally, I actually prefer the L&D refine over an Atk/Spd Solo refine. It amounts to about the same amount of damage, (even taking into account buffs, spurs and drives) roughly speaking, and though it takes some of his defenses away, a) they were low enough that it wasn't going to matter much, most of his defense is in his HP, and b) with the average 2 movement of units in feh units are safer being adjacent. Especially in, say, arena where people use rallies instead of repositioning skills, being able to get a unit in to body-block can mean a saved run.
Really, I was hoping for a base weapon where he got the -1 cooldown, and then a refine where it added a % of his speed to his attack with every special proc. (I was thinking 40%, so on top of a moonbow proc he'd get +15 attack stat off of his base 39 speed.) But hey, this still puts him in a much better spot than before.

well Lon'qu just became a top tier speedy sword unit. I compared him before with Karla, easily one of the best sword units in the game and they both are surprisingly close. Karla has 51 / 40 offensive stats and Lon'qu 50 / 44. Lon'qu with Solitary blade is pretty much a speed boon Karla with more consistent damage and a niche of using HP based skills, while Karla still has a little higher damage potential. I would say that he is an amazing unit and a great investment because he is in the 3* and 4* pools.
Its kind of funny how Lon'qu became the fastest unit in the game again like he was for the longest time.

that still wouldn't change anything. even with the lowered defenses he still gets the +3 hp to make up for it and he can still tank a single hit even from lances. its a very similar stat boost but with L&D you don't have to worry about positioning, which I like. I do have to admit that the refine is kind of boring but it couldn't be any better for him.

I made a kinda long post about it, just look it up on my profile.
But lemme give the gist of it and compare him with the two most populair sword speedsters.
Ayra: has the powerful regnal astra and best bulk, but trades it for base atk and flexibility for her special. She falls behind without RA.
Karla: Strongest normal attacks and quite flexible, but does have a need for speed more than the others. Plus Ayra+RA usually is better than Karla+moonbow.
Lon'qu: Doesn't have the attack stereoid of Regnal Astra or Vassal Blade, but has the highest speed, flexibility, and he can use skills like panic ploy and Infantry pulse.
Overall Ayra>Karla>Lon'qu
But not by much, which makes Lon'qu accually better than the other two, since he's so much easier to get with merges and perfect IV.
So yeah, it's simple. But sometimes that is all you need.
