Strategy/build suggestions for using an armor unit in TT?

So my haul from the winter banner consisted of a single +spd -def Winter Chrom. (Well, and the pity-breaker +res -def Athena, but hey, free Wo Dao.) These are terrible IVs, I know, but at least he kept his monstrous attack and I actually have a 40% TT unit now. My problem is that so far I haven't managed to keep a team with him on it alive for all 7 battles, and I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to fix this.

Running armor during TT is hard, they have such limited movement, and I don't want to run a multi-armor team, they'd be so slow at killing things that I'm sure it would tank my speed score, so no armor buffs for me. The team I'm running right now is Winter Chrom, BowLyn, Masked Marth (healer build), and Lancina. (I was using Azura, but so far Lancina's buffs and better bulk have proved more useful than Azura's dancing, and she does have reposition.) The problem is that none of these people can really take on Robin directly, and a lot of times Chrom (who would at least be able to tank a hit) dies a map or two before we even get to Robin, so I really need help keeping him alive.

Chrom so far only has his default kit (and the close defense 2 seal), and I'm trying to decide what else to give him. Would swapping Wary Fighter for QR be a good idea in this case? With a +spd IV, TT buffs, and buffs from Lancina he reaches 32 effective speed, which can help him actually avoid some doubles on his own, and the extra attack from QR would really up his killing potential. I also haven't given him a special yet, and I'm honestly considering Sol so he has more sustain, because I can't have Masked Marth following him around all the time, she's too busy keeping Lyn alive. Does this seem like it will be enough, or do I need to completely rework my team? (Also I should probably refine his weapon for +def, someone please talk me out of going for speed, it may seem like a good idea now but it would be totally useless once the TT is over.)

What other units do you have? In the case of giving QR to your W! Chrom-I’d probably skip that unless you plan on giving distant counter to him as well.
If i was in your position, I’d probably build a team like this, winter chrom/ a nuker(so like bridal cordelia, reinhardt), a dancer, and another nuker- with this setup you basically only use the above 3 units(with winter chrom just there for 40% bonus).

If you have nowi(all ready with skills and all that)-her alone is incredibly good in this TT-add a dancer and some counters to red units and you are all good.

For your refinery question, def or atk is where i would refine winter chrom’s weapon just because speed won’t do much to avoid doubles or give him more doubles against more enemy units.

If you absolutely have to use the aforementioned units and just want to switch one or two units-I’d probably place a dedicated healer and a dancer to replace lancina and masked marth(like axura and genny)

There are definitely more options given the units you have like for this TT, I’m running two armors in W!Chrom with brave axe set, Winter Tharja(with additional Aether special) and repo, Nowi, fully buffed, lucina(for healing and rarely to kill units).

I really wish I had a Nowi, but I only seem to get her with bad IVs, so I've not really successfully built one. Instead I have a +def monster of a Fae that I built into green!Nowi, but it's difficult to justify running her on a team with Winter Chrom. (Before I pulled him I was running her with Ninian, Masked Marth and BowLyn and they were cleaning up, no problem, but Winter Chrom gets me more points even if I do have to use a second team by the end.)

(I have a level 38 4* Nowi who's +hp -res from ages ago, but she's pretty much unbuilt.)

List of good units I have:
Masked Marth (healer)
Lucina (fury/desperation)
BowLyn
Lancina
B!Ike
Nino
Ephraim (mostly just built to support Nino, he's not very good on his own currently)
P!Inigo (raven build)
Azura
Olivia (Wo Dao)
Ninian
Fae
F!Robin (raven build)
Reinhardt
Xander (unfinished, but he's got QR and probably enough sp to learn bonfire)
Cecilia (raven)
Ursula (still only 4*, but can be a blade tome nuke in a pinch)
Priscilla (for healing and horse buffs)
Mist (Wrathful slow, recover+)
Edit: Fjorm, default kit

I think my problem is most of my really great units are green, unfortunately. (I have other 5* units, like Arvis and Julia and S!Tiki and the Askr trio, but I don't consider them quite as useful as the above.)

(I could also technically start a tank-Frederick 4* merge pretty easily, as I have a +def one now, but, um, he's still green.)

I do also have Halloween Henry, but good lord, figuring out how to use one green armor unit on a TT team is bad enough. Or would they just cover each other's weaknesses, do you think?

Report

I would definitely go this route. Just make surw your horses carry repo.....

Xander(give him TA and hone cav with bonfire)
Reinhardt(usual set)-i’d probably give him fortify cav but goad cav is fine
B.lyn(with brave set)
W’Chrom-for bonus

This team should give you consistent wins in this TT lunatic 7

If you have a good Flier, I would recommend to use it along with the Guidance seal. Your Chrom is most likely dying because of bad positioning, and being able to move 3 cases away would do a lot to keep him alive.

I run a similar setup with W!Chrom, Bow Lyn, M!Marth and a blue dancer, and while they don't always make it through all 7 maps deathless, they are fairly consistent.

Skills & Seals:
My Chrom runs Bonfire as his special and otherwise just his normal kit. For his seal, I'd suggest Distant Def since many threats are ranged units or Panic Ploy to take advantage of his insane HP.

Keep in mind that Wary Fighter cancels out doubles naturally so he doesn't necessarily benefit from speed in terms of evading doubles. If you put QR on him, he'll be able to double, but be weak to doubles from fast units.

Consider upgrading his weapon with +Def to increase his tankiness.

Other options:

It's difficult to tell without knowing your roster, but especially for units like M!Robin a green tome nuke like Nino can be a useful addition.

If you have other options for team building, consider bringing 2 (ranged) nukes and a dancer so you can keep Chrom away from danger.

Another option is to consider bringing in a flier (with Guidance) or horse unit with Reposition to get Chrom out of danger after he attacks.

Hope this helps.

I gave a partial list of my roster in a reply above, if it helps. My problem is not that I don't have purple who can counter Robin in general (I have a ton of good green mages and Fae), but I'm not really sure how to put them on a team with Winter Chrom. And if I go the "two nukes and a dancer" route, how does everyone stay alive?

Two nukes and a dancer:
The aggressiveness of that playstyle is great for making sure that the enemies die before your units take damage; I rarely bring healers anymore because of this.
Looking at your roster, possible combinations could be Reinhardt/Nino/Olivia, or Arvis/Nino/Azura, or sub in Bow Lyn for one of them. I think movement/range and no magic damage are the main issue in your current team, so bringing in mages could benefit you.
Kicking out Bow Lyn is also an option since you could bring in a second green unit instead.

Okay, update: I tried Nino/Olivia/Reinhardt first, thinking that Reinhardt had to be a better choice than Arvis because he's, y'know, Reinhardt. It worked pretty well for a few maps, and then I somehow got Reinhardt cornered by Elise (who prevented him from escaping) and Azama (who Pained him to death), and then it kind of fell apart. (Really embarrassing when your team is felled by two healers.)

So I tried Nino/Azura/Arvis. Oh my god, it was amazing. Arvis was in total ploy heaven, and while he's not *great* at healing his teammates compared to Marthcina or an actual healer, he has the best self-heal in the game, so there were times when he could take a hit and I didn't have to feel like all was lost. In addition, there was one time when I needed Nino to take a hit from Tailtiu, so I had Arvis ploy her and then sacrifice 10 hp to Nino (who was down to 1 thanks to fury), which was just enough for her to survive, it worked perfectly. I did lose Chrom a little over halfway through, but the other three were able to finish it out without him. Was a little worried that all the cat-and-mouse games would cost me an A in speed, but nope, got one anyway.

I will also totally put the +def refinement on Chrom's weapon once he has the sp for it, and then I will try this again. :D

Nice, good to hear about this progress! :D
Usually my W!Chrom is the last one surviving in TT, especially during autobattle, but he has different IVs and is merged.
I'm happy you managed to get the A in speed too! Honestly Arvis is an amazing unit, especially during TT!

You have several movement skills available(guidance, armor march(if running multiple armor), reposition). If you are having trouble keeping him healthy there is sol, aether, noontime, renewal, or bring a healer. He has pretty good defense and should only be fighting blues and possible greens, so he shouldn't be getting damaged too hard.

I am currently running WLissa and just using reposition to move her if I need her to kill something. But I am also running Nowi(who is pretty unkillable in this TT, especially with the buffs).

Don't refine for spd, it is pretty much worthless on Chrom. You should go +def, or if you feel the need for the extra 2 atk then +Atk.
