The story quality - book II vs III

So now the initial impact has grounded I want to give my first impression.
Or rather the reason I have hopes book III will at the very least be better than book II

-The opening movie
Book II's was kinda cool with the ice Gate of Babylon vs Surtr's murder flames.
But it was a bit hollow, we knew we wouldn't get anthing as big in the real story and there was no clear focus on characters beyond Fjorm is the new main good guy and showing off some bad guys.
And the main story reflected this by being just as simple for the most part.

Book III, while still flashy doesn't show anything that's could never be close to the real story. Despite the over the top music and designs, it was quite grounded. If very edgy.
But it also has a bigger focus on character. Not all; Sharena, Veronica the new generals and debatably Hel were not too focussed on. With Anna, Fjorm and Bruno being absent entierly.
BUT that's probably for the best. The trailer had focus, clearly Alfonse is the man of book III. He's the main character, the one with the spotlight.
And Eir is #2, she's the new character that is going to matter the most for now. Pretty clear with her being a free unit and the new face, but the trailer does a goos job showing her character and conflict with the realms of life and death.

-Chapters I&II
What I really like so far is that the story keeps the focus on Alfonse, just like the trailer. There's new info and some side stuff, but clearly Alfy is the main lad her. We also get some stuff with Eir, but she doesn't hog the show like Fjorm (rest in peace).
There's also Daddy Askr. Who's a more impactful athority figure in a chapter, than Surtr in the whole book II. He sets up a good conflict for Alfonse.
'To be a hero or a king'
That is probably going to be his main thing, alongside probably a fight against the eDgE for when shit is going to go wrong.

One issue though. Hel.
She's kinda shaping up to be Surtr 2.0 (and thus Garon 3.0). Really hope that won't happen.

- Overall vibe/design
I kinda just wanna mention that I like it.
Tbh, a theme of death and norse hel wouldn't work without edge.
And I like the idea of old heroes rising from the grave.
The bones you can seen through the wrath-like bodies were a nice idea.
Eir also is a better logo than Fjorm.

----

I'm hopeful for this story.
Do I think it'll be top literature? Or even high for FE standards?
No.
I really don't.

But it should be a step up for this mobile game at the very least.

Movie for book 3 came off as very "vision"-y to me, which I found very disappointing. Book 2's intro movie did a better job of setting up the story for the book. Overall it's interesting, but if they were going to make the enemies be dead I'd have preferred if they were at least semi-transparent (at least for the generic enemies), would have made them so much better.

Right now for me it's on Par with Book 2 (I real don't care if something is edgy or not, edgy isn't the same as good) - Hel seems a lot like the love-child of Surtr and Loki as far as villains go (since she seems a bit more crafty, than Mr. burning everything). We'll have to wait and see how the generals compare to Laegjarn and Helbindi.

Veronica is back, and they set the ground work for Embla to join Askr so perhaps we'll get a summonable Bruno after all!!!!!!

I'd argue that most other Main Fire Emblem don't really have high standards.

Anyway, I quite like it so far. I'm interested in seeing Loki's role in the story.
One thing I noticed is that IS doesn't really seem to know where it wants to got with the Gustav / Alfonse relationship. It starts by establishing a rough relatioship, suddenly his dad wants to talk to him again, only to have that waaay too long dialogue about how a king should act. Didn't like that. Other than that, I am interested to see where it goes.
I like every design expect for Hel. She looks like a failed Lady Gaga stage costume.

I really liked Gustav, I just don't know why that whole discussion had to happen while they were being invaded lol.

I agree about Hel, but you put it into words better than I ever could have.

I like it but i'm not good with this many deaths of characters (it's just me tho), almost all Muspel exept for Laevatein and Nifl (Gunthra and Fjorm), and Sharena next. Other than that, i love art style and music IS chose for book 3.

Its not hard to be better than Book 2's story.

Admittedly, the book started out slow. Aren't early chapters supposed to be big exposition dumps for the story's set up? There were a couple maps that didn't even have any story. Even filler would be nice. A silly chat amongst the Askrtrio. Something.

That being said, with the mention that Lif and Thrasir are (apparently) the re-animated corpses of Askr and Embla's progenitors, respectively, makes for an interesting conflict. It's certainly better than Book 2's "motivation" already. It's too early to say how much better it is than Book 2, but it seems, at the very least, to be a step up from the previous Book.
