Steady Breath + Windsweep ?

Just a bit of theorycrafting here:

After reading about how potentially OP Steady Breath can be with tanky armored units, killer-weapon wielders, and DC units, I was wondering if there are other applications for Steady Breath.

Use Steady Breath and Windsweep on a fast infantry unit.

On Player phase, the speedy unit can attack once without fear of counterattack. On enemy phase, the player gets +4 def and -2 cd on enemy hit and return fire.

Example with Brave Lucina
> Player phase: Lucina hits enemy for -1 cd
> Enemy phase: enemy attacks back. Lucina gets -2 cd
> Enemy phase: Lucina counters for -2 cd or doubles enemy to kill them.

Depending on her special, she can already have Bonfire fully charged on her counterattack or even a fresh Aether to delete the next enemy on playerphase.

This combo is expensive certainly but has interesting player and enemy phase synergy.

Thoughts?

Sorry but while I can see this kind of working, it begs the question, why sacrifice a Brave Ike for it unless he has really bad IVs? BIke with Urvan can already make him reliably counterattack with Luna or Bonfire already charged with the doubled CD. So why waste him on another unit?

Agreed. While this could be a potentially devastating combo, I can't really think of any units who could abuse this to the point where you'd sack an Alm AND a B!Ike.

Oh yea, I totally understand. This is why I'm purely theorycrafting here separate from the balancing costs of sacrificing expensive units like CYL Ike and Alm.

I just wanted to bring up this idea to find possible fun new strategies beyond our usual bread-and-butter builds!

Thanks for feedback.

I like the idea. But in practice, we usually match our units against opponents based on triangle advantage. Now to fully utilize windsweep, our unit would have high speed, which means that it already has a decent chance to double the enemy that it is supposed to handle. However, since windsweep prevents doubling, we would prolong the battle for one more turn, which could introduce too many expected elements (such as WoM).

The other thing is that steady breath is an A-slot skill, which excludes DC. In the current meta where mages are rampant, DC still has its critical use despite the introduction of Brave Lyn. I am guessing that a good unit to utilize steady breath would be one that has built-in DC to his/her weapon. I am seriously considering to give steady breath to my normal Ike, or even Ryoma.

Agreed. Competition between DC and Steady Breath in A-slot is a lot of tradeoffs... so units like Ryoma, Ike, and even Adult Tiki are excellent inheritors of Steady Breath.

That leaves tanky melee walls as the only other options since most speedy units tend to sacrifice their own defense for speed.

I wasn't expecting my strat to work, but it's fun to brainstorm ideas before I commit! Thanks for the feedback. :)
