Steady Breath Nephenee is lame
I've always had some kind of OCD reaction seeing fast units (or units that are supposed to be...) run the most staple Steady Breath + Aether- let alone ones that are capable of being fast AND tanky.
Let me clear this out: I'm not against functionality.
I get it. This cookie-cutter works for pretty much anyone- and maybe that's my problem with it when it comes to Nephenee. Her Spd is what allows her to run mixed phase approach. And yet, people limit her to what basically someone like Lukas can do better.
She has Spd. Use it. The problem is that 35 neutral is around that point where you can be pretty quick, assuming you invest on it. Leave it the way it is, and she's in that weird "doesn't get doubled" territory, where she'll likely have to take QR Seal to double a lot more, which just ends up sacrificing Close Def. Again, at that point you may as well just build Lukas. And since she's pretty much only Enemy Phase, you're still succeptible Bold Fighter (very, very common threat).

Nephenee is fast but not quite fast enough to double some speedier targets she could also one-round if she gets the follow-up. Her weapon refinement grants her more spd on enemy phase. One can further take advantage of it by using dual stance skills that grants spd in the A-slot and the recently acquired darting stance seal. This way she can generate enough spd that she doesn't need to use QR and keep her Wrath in the B-slot. But if people like her to fire off specials all the time, I wouldn't get upset at them using the SB+QR combo.

My Nephenee is fast enough at shooting Specials, assuming they aren't Aether. Slaying-like weapon + Wrath allows her to do that, and she only needs to double for an Ignis.
I know her Spd isn't fast enough to double the speedier people (which is basically, like, Ayra), and that wasn't the point. But she can double more than what people lend her to, which was the point (faster Dragons).
Stance only keep her Enemy Phase, which isn't any better than Steady Breath.

I think this is the problem, people are too into the whole "don't build units one way when someone else can do it better" and that's probably why it's such an issue for you. A unit with a lot of speed doesn't HAVE to be made into a speedy tank, and, like you said, if the build works then it works.
If someone wants to build her that way, then sure, but no one should feel pressured into building a unit a specific way. If people want to devote then let them.

This is an arguement that you'll commonly see, and it doesn't mean I am the proponent of it. In fact, if you don't actually remember, I used to say the exact same thing you do. And it just makes sense to play characters the way they prefer (what their stands initially point towards to).
It's kind of ironic, because the same community that thinks this "meta" way is the same that tends to propose a Steady Breath + Aether Nephenee as her staple.

Personally I want a super tanky bruiser who has decent mixed bulk (cough res cough) and high speed. I have +Def -Res +1 but I'm hoping for a +Def -HP sometime. I just give her +Eff refine and Darting Stance SS (rip DD3 tho), which brings her up to 46 speed. SoonI'm going to give her Steady Breath and Aether, but I think that this build as a speedy tanky bruiser is amazing.

Is this interesting? This makes use of both the generic 'SB plus Aether' but also the 'speedy tank' role. She'll hit 42 defense and 45 speed during enemy phase, and hit back with an instant Aether, which heals her up from the first hit and then she KO's from the second, if she doesn't kill right off the bat. Plus, she has armor effectiveness, to help out against Bold Fighter units.
Really, investing in mixed-phase is pretty hard since you cut the available skill slots in half; If you take an offensive weapon, A slot and Seal, you only have your B and your C for defense. Plus, skills that work both phases (Windsweep, Watersweep, Fury) take up valuable slots that might be better suited to something else and come with their own drawbacks.

YES, it’s insane. The difference between that one and the usual is that, like you said, allows her to use Aether a lot better through the first hit (potentially oneshotting most armours. It’s far better optimized for enemy phase by potentially avoiding Bold Fighter.
As to your argument m, I feel it’s a lot of what I mentioned. If anything, it might support it:
- She’s vulnerable against Bold Fighter in Enemy Phase (without Guard and maybe SS)
- With stuff like Atk Smoke and mixed A-slot like Fury, she can be pretty good at mixed phase. I’d even argue better at player, considering she can play Glimmer oneshot with Wrath.
