Speedy Cherche????

So I've got this lovely +atk -spd Cherche (pictured), but I'm also OVER units that 100% die as soon as magic touches them. Should I build my +spd -def Cherche instead?

With L&D, spd seal, and +spd refine on Cherche's Axe, Speedy Cherche would have...
51 hp
54 atk
35 spd
24 def
11 res

So, units over 40 spd could still double her when she's unbuffed, but on a flier team she could maintain 43 spd (45 if I could ever draw something with Hone Fliers {yep, basically day one player and I've never pulled a single Hinoka, OG Myrrh etc.}). But if she can avoid being doubled with base 75/62 physical/magical soak, she should survive single hits from the likes of non-red dragons, most blue tomes and staves, a decent number of green tomes, and a good number of physical units other than speedy red swords. Right? She should even survive Bold Fighter lances with less than 60 atk.

54x2 is enough damage to still nuke almost any target that my +atk Cherche might nuke with up to 63x2 at her theoretical disposal. Yeah?

Since i can't set her up with Special Fighter [thanks, Seeker!], Galeforce isn't as feasible, but Aether could work for arena scoring/sustain. Then I might hope for a few single-combat quad procs once she's merged up to 37-38 base spd!

What say you, community? Are my maths even sound?

I didn't check your calculations, but your concept is correct. People don't talk about it a lot because Cherche is famous not for spd but for atk and brave weapons don't help. That said, I think it's a good idea to build Cherche to be able to quad slow units. Any squishy unit she will easily slay in two hits; high def creatures may require more. And it works especially well for Cherche because she's a flier and it's possible to stack goads on her, so let's say you go +spd as you propose, and you use swift sparrow (NB not L&D if you want to keep her magic soak. -def is ok, but L&D runs counter to your purpose) and manage to stack two goads on her. That's 36 spd without merges, which quads even a lot of dragons, and we haven't discussed ally support, merges, or the weapon refine.

I personally recommend taking the effect refine because panic ploy fodder is very limited. I think there's a very reasonable case to be made for spd. However, if you're merging, I would say >40 spd is probably overkill. By the time you stack that many goads on her, her atk is probably approaching 70 so even stuff like F.Grima with close def might well fall in two hits.

Cherche can't use special fighter because she's not an armour; guard can be good just to make sure somebody doesn't steady breath ignis her. I tend to want desperation, but it's tricky to drop into desperation when so much dies in two hits and the probability of getting hit with steady breath ignis is actually fairly high anytime she needs to quad and doesn't already have desperation active. And she has a lot of HP so even fury takes a few skirmishes to get desperation going.

Hmm... I was thinking I'd need the speed on enemy phase, but I do have the Swift Sparrow fodder... And I have Panic Ploy fodder, oddly, but I'd probably rather have her run Fortify Fliers in C. I didn't realize Special Fighter was locked to armors, though, that puts a big pin in my plans.

Thanks!

Wow that's an interesting point. I hadn't considered trying to use the spd on enemy phase. And with two goads she's getting into the zone where every point can matter.

With spd refine on weapon and L&D I think you have a case. I don't like what it does to her defenses (which means fury+desperation might, relatively speaking, be better than I originally thought), especially when her def and such high HP actually makes good potential for taking at least two hits on her def, but not getting doubled can save her a lot of damage, and if she's getting hit on her res it's usually going to be the difference between life and death (if you'll pardon the pun).

I like where your head is at. At this point, I think I'm just gonna do it, just to catch arena players unaware and mess with the meta expectation.

Plus, there's always this guy to fit the mold!
