So what do I do?
So, back when she first came out, I was lucky enough to get Sonya (+res/-hp). I really dig her skill set and she has basically replaced Julia as my main green mage. She still is my favorite even after I fully tricked out a +spd Nino. However, I managed to get a second Sonya recently: +atk/-hp.
Normally, I wouldn't really think about it. +atk is usually better than +res.
However, there are a few things keeping me back from changing to +atk. Firstly, with Fury, +res Sonya hits 38 resistance- she laughs off blue mages and takes minimal damage from green mages (g tomebreaker is a must for her). Secondly, I just spent the last tempest trials murdering everything in sight with Sonya. She's now sitting on 7500+ sp. Not that I'd ever use it all, but I'd lose that if I merged her into +atk. It's kind of like a badge of honor. Thirdly, Sonya is now a debuff machine- with res ploy native to her and the atk ploy seal, she gives just about anyone -5 res and -3 atk. This question is the most important to me, actually- does anyone who crunches numbers know the difference in the amount of enemies she'd successfully debuff if she went from 38 resistance to 35?

Actually, I was wondering too, what is the best boon for Sonya ? I mean, at first you would think it's Spd, but it doesn't really affect any of her match-ups really.
With such a low Def, she'll get OS most of the time she gets hit by a physical attack and with her impressively high res, she doesn't really bother getting doubled... She could even take a -Spd bane and not really suffer from it (she wouldn't get slower than Julia anyways).
So her best boon would probably be Atk or Res, but an Atk boon doesn't change much to her OHKO potential unless she builds around it. And her res already being that high, it doesn't really change much to the outcome of any magic duel.
But as you said, it helps with the Ploy effectiveness, so I start to think Res boon is the best.
Luckily for me, my Sonya is +Res/-Def (not often that I get Lucky in this game, so feelsgoodman when it happens xD)

I know, it's been a while since I've posted. I've been grinding for orbs to chase SS characters (3 5*'s in 100 orbs... only one of which is a focus character, but least it was Tana) and trying to get a higher score in TT.
That's precisely how I'm feeling in this regard- Sonya is one of those characters who works with any boon/bane.
Dark Excalibur provides ample offense, so it allows for a slightly defensive skillset.
I decided to keep the +res boon because, as I said before, she eats green mages and anything blue. And her debuff potential is great, which got exponentially better with the attack ploy seal released this TT. After the merge, she's now at 39 resistance.
I think I'm going to give Iceberg a try. It'll proc less, but it'll add an extra 29 damage to the attack as opposed to an extra 15-18 with moonbow. Not sure how it'll go, but it immediately makes her a threat to red mages, too.
I think I'm also going to give her axe-breaker and bow-breaker to possibly change out as needed. If we had more access to lance-/blue tome-breaker, I'd throw those on her, too.
Congrats on the +res Sonya, too. It seems we have both stumbled into something powerful.

I know the feeling; I had a +HP -DEF Delthea that I used for the Tempest Trials. She ended up with 9999SP, the max (she was the only large bonus unit I had) and I pulled a +RES -HP Delthea an hour before it ended. (Since it wasn't +ATK or SPD I just merged her into the old one.) If you do choose to switch to the +ATK one, I'd recommend inheriting and learning as many useful skills as you can onto the one with the SP pool, as they will all transfer over when you merge. That's what I did to an Ike when I got a +ATK over my old, well used -ATK.
