So.... Original Hector?
Is he just Distant Counter fodder at this point, or does he actually still stack up against his new Valentine's version? I think the built-in Quick Reposte with his weapon still makes him a very scary threat, which is something the Valentine's version lacks in.
Unfortunately, my Valentine's Hector has -DEF, +HP IVs, which brings him down to the exact same DEF as my regular Hector, so they practically have the same stats, except Valentine's has a lot more RES (my original Hector is -RES, +SPD unfortunately) and slightly more ATK.

OG Hector still is better in some cases since he has QR2 built into his weapon, where VAL Hector has a cooldown reduction + wrath built into his.
They seem similar, but I feel that VAL Hector should be compared more to Winter Chrom than his original version. OG Hector can run more builds, I feel, and VAL Hector has to sacrifice either Wary Fighter or QR3, since they adversely affect each other, where OG Hector can run both, or swap in the second QR3 for a different seal.
I'd personally say that VAL Hector is more of a side-grade than a strict upgrade.

The new hector looks great but at the end of the day he's still a seasonal unit so... if you got the money and luck then yeah he can be better with the merges but in the long run normal is more feasible because he's able to be summoned anywhere. It's still worthwhile to get as many as you can because DC is one of the, if not the most wanted skill for fodder. I personally will be going for him (I don't even have normal hector) and if I get more than 1 they're becoming fodder.
