So Innes's Refine...

His +Eff is amazing as most of us already know, but is anybody else a little stumbled that the owl effect remained the same? I feel like it would be WAY better utilized if the requirement was allies being within two spaces instead of them only being adjacent...tomes and dragons not being able to counterattack seems counterproductive with it, since he'll usually need to move away from allies to attack them in player phase.

What are other people's thoughts? I'm leaning towards not refining it at all, especially since mine doesn't even have optimal IVs

A self-drive effect would be too easy. Besides, the Owl effects were meant to involve good player positioning. Even so, something like Fury or similar skills could make up for lack of positioning in the meantime.

I agree that it's an awkward refine and doesn't work without "doctoring up" his statline using buffs. He's too slow to double fast mages and doesn't mind taking a hit anyways; he doesn't hit hard enough (or in some cases even fast enough) to get through dragons' tough def.

However, with the refine he's quite good with special spiral. He could go for glimmer to OHKO the squishy mages and get some extra damage against dragons (because he's actually not that far from one-rounding a good number of them on a double, especially with a buff); he could also take iceberg to enemy phase OHKO squishy hyperspeed mages (just don't activate their desperation) and use the burst damage against dragons.

One option for that is to run him with Fury, Special Sprial and 2 ploy skills (like def+spd)
Have him tank hits and charge his special at the start of fights, then go offence when he's low and charged up.

Maybe with escape route+moonbow/glimmer as a budget option
