Skills & How They Work

So my Winter Tharja defended against an attacking Sigurd, which had Crusader's Ward. That skill states "an enemy 2 tiles away", but the Sigurd was attacking, so its should be 1 tile right? Even if it was somehow 2 tiles, how would the same Winter Tharja proc Hector's Pavise (when he's attacking), which is for enemies 1 tile away. If someone could explain these skills, that would help tremendously. Thanks!

The defensive skills such as Pavise and Crusader's Ward are based on what the original attacking range of the character is. So for Tomes, Staves, Daggers, and Bows, they activate on a "2 tiles away" ability, while Sword, Ax, Lance, and Dragonstone activate on "1 tile away" abilities. They do not take Distant Counter and Close Counter into consideration.

Actually pavise does since it just says adjacent foes. If Tharja was defending againt Hector with Pavise and Hector had it charged it does go off when Tharja attacks back with close counter. Had it happen in TT quite a few times.

It probably wasn't Crusader's Ward that activated as he would double Tharja. What you probably got was Divine Tyrfing effect, which is if in combat against foe using magic, unit receives 50% less damage from the first attack.

Thanks, it makes more sense now. The little things matter I guess. Also Tharja activated Iceberg on her first attack against Sigurd, which would probably greatly change the amount of damage done, since she has so much Res. I'm assuming then that the Holy Vestments line activates when a unit has Distant Counter.
