Skill Inheritance only from Merged Units?

Did I read the notification wrong or is the whole hype about skill inheritance really only amounting to being able to get skills during the Merge Allies command? I mean...that is a cool feature for saving sp but realistically who here has characters that are low on sp when they hit level 40 who aren't Lyn or Cordelia (galeforce is a hell of a thing)? So I see really limited utility for it unless you desperately want a skill for your level 1 character and you refuse to use shards on them.
We are supposedly getting an "equippable item" that increases the skills of allies though so maybe the 1000+sp most of my 5 stars have will go to some use.
...where it equips is unclear to me...

The notice is explaining that inheriting skills is not limited to sending heroes home. Heroes can also inherit skills from merging allies as the notice example stated. For a base Marth (let's say has better IVs) to inherit Sol, you don't need need to send home the source Marth (who inherited Sol earlier). You can also merge them and the better IV Marth will gain Sol auto. We still not sure how the inheritance system works, only told ways on how to inherit them for now.

Also merging allies will be involved in the arena as that will be used as a criteria for generating match ups. So those encountering a +10 Eirika or Lucina before won't likely to meet them again unless they too have a +10 character.

If i have understand it right this merge save only sp example you have a bad iv marth but have a new marth with good ivs you can give him Sol to him when your old marth has it.
Actually with that news it is confirm we can inhertiance special skills like luna and sol to chars like marth that has no special skill.

Does this mean that to inherit, we will lose the unit that gives the skill?
