Shield Pulse?

Well, a Saber just showed up some days ago, I don't really like him, he has bad IVs(+HP -Spd, I think), so I have a Shield Pulse 3, but I don't really see builds with that skill, any options?

Honestly SP is more used in unique/fun builds that no one would think about doing. The main question to start with is what units do you have

Report

Karla can actually do the same thing. Their statlines are extremely similar if Raven uses L&D refine, and both prfs have cooldown reduction.

Report

The only unit that can run Shield Pulse is Fjorm with Ice Mirror, because she's the only unit that has a usable damage reduction special. The generic ones are just inferior to other specials.

As has already been stated, he's more useful for his weapon.

Report

Many have found pavise to be effective on characters like Raven who have enough damage output without more from their specials. It is not a law for all characters that specials need to increase damage.

Report

Maybe a unit with high enough attack to deal damage without special and activate heavy blade: give that unit a the seal and a 2 cd defence skill.

I wouldn't fodder his sword off. It's always possible that we'll get better defence skills. So keep him for now at least. 3.0 shouldn't be to far of, so we might get a big update.

Report

Investing a B and S slot into an already highly situational special is kind of questionable.

For purposes of self-sustain, giving a tanky unit with high attack a healing special will usually be better than damage reduction.

Report

Questioned, and if you ask me, justifiably. Questioned, and found effective.

And shield pulse isn't designed for sustain. You're correct in that aether is a better option for tanks attempting to sustain. In fact, shield pulse necessitates giving up sustain because you're not using a healing special and you're not using renewal. It's more of a bid to last longer on a character that already does a lot of damage but probably gave up their defenses in order to be able to do so.

It's a tricky skill to use. A couple of ideas I came up with:

A.Tiki and M.Grima (+atk Nowi might potentially pull this off too with dark breath)
prf
(some assist)
pavise
heavy blade
shield pulse
(some C-skill)
deflect melee

You will start the battle with 1CD until pavise is charged. Initiate into an opponent, and you get that charge. You're slow, so your opponent will probably double. The first hit will get absorbed by pavise, and the second hit will get absorbed by deflect melee. You can therefore chip down the opponent's HP for a teammate (ex: a bonus unit) to finish them off, unless your opponent doesn't have bulk and just dies in one hit.
Mind you, this build is potentially better with vantage, because once you're below 75%HP then deflect melee will activate on either phase.

Another option is a build for someone like Azura or our new Silvia, who have good res but poor def.
Slaying edge/lance+res or +spd (try not to get doubled)
(some assist)
Pavise
Warding breath
Shield pulse
Hone atk or whatever you want for supporting the team
Deflect missile

You'll get your res well into the 30s for tanking mages. Arrows and daggers might hurt a lot; if you prefer just to stay out of the way then you can get rid of deflect missile and use some skill to support the team. If you get attacked at melee range by a manakete, it never mattered that much, but if you get attacked with sticks and stones, pavise will soak up a lot of damage for you, and every time you hit back it will instantly recharge.

I've also been trying to figure out some build involving firesweep, but I haven't found a way to make it effective.
