Would Steady Stance 4 or Close Def 3 or Steady Breath be better
If you're going for scoring with the boi, obviously stance 4 cause its 300 sp. Otherwise, I think stance and breath are comparable. He doesn't have special reduction but he's slow, so breath should proc aether on each combat. However, if you want aethers vs full health foes, then stance is probably better. Obviously though Surtr is better than BIke so your choice on who to fodder. I only premium fodder for +10s personally, but if you like seliph enough go for it.
In PvE maybe? Like, marginal matchups vs generic red manaketes are a lot more winnable with close def...but I think that's it. Generic blues will beat him regardless, and generic greens he will probably beat if he has full HP even without CD.
vs fast Nowi, M.Kana, M.Azurcorrin, and likely blue F.Corrin he's probably lost either way
vs slow Nowi is probably a draw, close def or not
vs A.Tiki is probably a draw if she doesn't use swordbreaker and loss or draw if she does...but with swordbreaker it's a terrible matchup he wants to leave to a teammate.
vs Fae is probably a win, close def or not
vs M.Grima is a win unless he has bold fighter, in which case you lose on enemy phase to the special - unless, ironically, you use steady stance. Then with colour advantage and high HP he actually survives and will KO back.
vs F.Azurcorrin is probably similar
vs F.Kana is probably a win because of Kana's low atk unless she has a player phase build with some big special (wrath + flashing blade + ignis or something like that)
Getting doubled on 35-37 def...dangerous. He might survive because he has so much HP, but very dangerous. Unless you use guard. So between the three options, steady stance 4 is definitely safest. Steady breath is the double-edged option. Close def 3...I don't think I like. His matchups against manaketes are very poor anyways.
