Sealed Falchion PSA

I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks about this, but I think Sealed Falchion as a sidegrade seems to be underrated among the falchion upgrades for awakening. I mean sure the bond refine for falchion is good and all but in most battles it's very difficult to line up units to be adjacent to one another both phases. While on the other hand, sealed Falchion has the same stat bonus, minus the renewal 3 effect, but can be utilized whenever, as long as you aren't at full hp, not even 75% or below, just take one damage and that's a +4 to all stats, synergies well with desperation too. Not really a super big deal, just wondering why nobody seems to use it, especially since it's also cheaper on divine dew.

I think it just hasn't caught on yet, honestly. I was just looking at it earlier and thinking that it would be a great way to update my Fury/Desperation Lucina into something more viable in the current meta. Chrom, on the other hand, probably wants the bond-type upgrade, unless he's running a brash assault build.

That's what I was thinking too, it universally isn't the best option, but shouldn't be sidelined due to it's potential, I mean it is a lot cheaper as I've said before and the threshold is easier to proc, in exchange for the renewal 3 effect, perfect for a fast frail attacker like Lucina, but not for Chrom, who's more of a sustain tank

It's honestly underrated, though I'd argue the only really good user of Sealed Falchion as a sidegrade is Lucina herself, due to being able to have a speed boon and having the offensive stats for it. With swift sparrow and sealed falchions effect, she can hit upwards of 59/48 offenses and all she needs to do to get here is take a hit, which is easy especially with how prevalent dragons are.

+Spd Chrom with Sealed Falchion and Brazen Atk/Spd will reach 65 attack and 41 speed. Desperation, Speed Smoke, and Heavy Blade Seal would make him super deadly.

Report

That's without other buffs as well, which obviously would send him into a completely different league. You could swap out Desperation for Vantage. Dragonic Aura obv. should be his Special.

Report

One reason it's underrated is because a lot of the users who upgraded their main Falchion user (from Awakening) don't want to use up even more Divine Dew to use ANOTHER upgrade for the exact same unit when they can use it on another unit that doesn't have their refinement yet and costs Dew.

Report

That's actually what I thought too, good thing I waited before upgrading, and it paid off. Divine dew is very difficult to farm, so I have to agree that it's kind of a waste if you refined it before just to do it again. I just thought about this when I checked the recommended build here at gamepress, no mention of sealed Falchion at all.

I think it's about offensive versus defensive, most people use falchions to buff everyone else

Report

But isn't the refined awakening falchion more of a self buff than anything, I mean a 20 hp heal every other turn + reciprocal aid is good, but if it ain't Marths refine, I wouldn't count on it alone. But I agree that the refined awakening falchion is more of an enemy phase buff as it's very difficult to line units up when attacking.

I've pulled 3 Winter Robins (2 really good IVs, one horrible) and I'm very tempted to give Brazen Atk/Spd to my Lucina and go with Sealed Falchion.

Only thing stopping me is that my two Lucina's are both +res and -hp and -def respectively.
