Unless you're dedicating him to a full support role, don't. Chill Res will help far more, and assists in him activating his ploys

As a matter of fact, don't give him a Chill skill at all. He's pretty bad and not worth the investment, unless you really like him (unlikely considering how bland he is).

Well, he is just a blue Arvis without Recover Ring...

And I seriously doubt many players have fond memories of him either, IIRC, most players (myself correctly) pick Ced instead. It's like Echidna vs. Bartre, one of them is almost never going to get picked.

Report

Not having fond memories of him in his game doesn't mean he's a crappy unit, and even if he doesn't have Recover Ring, that, again, doesn't mean he's a crappy unit.

Any unit that can pull off 4 Ploys has no business being called crappy, not to mention Arvis is a RED mage while Saias is a BLUE mage.

Arvis is the better Fury unit because he has Recover Ring, but these two can tackle completely different units.

The multi ploy thing is just a gimmick. Saias is slow, even after accounting for a speed plot, doesn't hit especially hard, IV locked and not capable of being merged beyond +2 at the moment. If someone wants to invest heavily in him, great, but I am not a believer in feeding 5* exclusive fodder and skills to units that are not useful at a high level.

"Saias is slow, even after accounting for a speed plot..." - Arvis has 1 speed more than Saias...

"doesn't hit especially hard..." - Arvis has 1 attack more than Saias...

"IV locked..." - You mean like Arvis?

"not capable of being merged beyond +2 at the moment." - You mean somewhat similar to Arvis...?

"but I am not a believer in feeding 5* exclusive fodder and skills to units that are not useful at a high level." - That's preference. Some people feed Flashing Blade to units like Fir, or Hana, and they make it work, it's just how you use them and what you're using them for. That's why teams are made up of four units, so each team member can cover another unit's weakness. Not only is Saias a blue mage, he also has pretty decent resistance AND has access to 4 Ploys (and you can increase his resistance even more to Ploy in a more reliable fashion).

Saias is not as terrible as people are making him out to be. He may not have Recover Ring, like Arvis, but he can definitely be put to work if someone actually tries to do so.

Everything Krazytre just said basically lol. between the 2 i'd say arvis could be a bit more useful simply because of his recover ring, but he still is just as good as a DEBUFFER as Arvis is. Saias isn't a bad unit, but is best used as a support/debuffer unit as opposed to an attacker.

Report

I didn't say he was crappy, but Arvis's recover ring is a huge advantage. Both have their strengths, but the Ring in addition to all of the ploys means that Arvis can pull off a ploy boi role better.

Being a red mage also helps, and the only red mages that are better (this is from my point of view) than Arvis are Winter Tharja, Celica, Horse Eirika, Lilina, Sanaki, and I'd put Male Morgan and Lyon on the same power level as him. Saias, on the other hand, is outshined by Rein, Bunny Catria, Delthea, Linde, VaLyntine, Micaiah, Lute (who has the exact same role, but does it far better), L'arachel, Female Morgan, Olwen, and Summer Corrin, a larger cast of characters, one of which performs in the same niche as Saias.

By the way, I included the fond memories part to explain why people were being so harsh on the guy, not to explain why he is or is not crappy.

Yikes, a lot of hate for Saias I see.

I'd rather just give him 4 Ploys than to give him Chill Defense. Even if you don't find using Chrom fun, he can be useful for Cavalry-only quests, or Arena Assault (or GHB).

Report

I'm going to have to disagree on that, Chrome is far better in a horse emblem team than Xander imo. The boost from Sealed Falchion is extremely impressive, and Siegfriend's built in DC has kind of lost it's shine. If you need a DC cavalry who has an open A-slot, use Camus instead.

Report

@WhereForrestAt I dont know how i feel about sacking someone for chill defense on saias,as he is best as a debuffer with his weapon and ploy skills. but it could work i guess, dont like it tho lol.
