Is Safeguard worth giving to anyone?

I have a Lene that I have no interest in keeping, and I was kicking around the idea of foddering her for Firestorm dance, but...

Is Safeguard a decent weapon? I was thinking of giving it to Arden, or perhaps someone else in the future, but I’m unsure - is firestorm the better fodder off or is it worth keeping Safeguard to give to someone?

It's good for units like Selena, Hinata, Laslow, etc. It's a great enemy phase weapon.

Firestorm is good, but it's a B skill, so you'd have to consider the possibility of something like Wings of Mercy, or even a chill skill, but it has nice synergy with the Earth Dance seal.

Safeguard is by far the better of the two when it comes to fodder. The problem is finding a unit that can truly make good use of Safeguard. Many of the Red units that could benefit from it already have good weapons on them so adding Safeguard just wouldn't make sense in many cases. But Safeguard itself is a good weapon.

The answer depends in part on play style. I'm not a fan of any of the dance-based buffing skills because they use up my B-slot (except earth dance has been released as a seal, but it doesn't synergize with dance generally being offensively-oriented) and I prefer either wings of mercy or a breaker for coverage. If I were to fodder Lene, I would almost certainly go with safeguard. Olivia can use it; certain tanks such as Selena can also use it.

See, I was going to Fodder it to my azura, so she can stack it with Earth Dance and be more of a powerful support, more so since she already outlives her glass canon team. I’m thinking I might go for Firestorm instead, since I tend not to use characters like Selena. All my tanks are armor.

My Arden have safeguard+, and he is a monster! SB + safeguard + followup ring + cd => he is near invincible on the physical side. Safeguard is the physical version of Berkut's lance, and this weapon is really good (like really!).
Any sword unit with respectable physical bulk and ennemy phase can have safeguard for good/amazing result. Safeguard can give potentially 11def in ennemy phase, 11def!

Def scale better than health for follow up ring.
You won't put Arden vs magical foe (he destroy dragon with his hp pool but he will be too low life after one dragon) so def scale better than HP for keeping your health at 50%+

Safeguard is really a "magic" sword : It can transform almost any sword unit into ennemy phase physical tank.
Take Hana for exemple : 23 def is "meh", give her safeguard +def => 34 def in ennemy phase, and if you put SB too, 38 def in ennemy phase, 41 with def boon, and 47 with close def in S slot.
Who said Hana was not tanky?
I honestly think safeguard is one of the best sword available. And contrary to berkut's lance, you don't need to put DC on your unit for maximum optimization

I took another look at the list of sword-wielders. Funnily enough, Alfonse is one of the better candidates because so many of the other swords have really good prfs. Add brazen atk/def, maybe guard and ignis, and the second time he baits, somebody is getting blown up. 32+7+7=46 def, and you can add a def refine and/or close def seal if you want more.
