Renewal on Offensive Units?

So I finally went deathless again after a dry spell of mid 4700 scores, yay! And I cannot help but notice a deeply troubling trend: people putting renewal on units that are only good for offense.
Specifically I have seen it very commonly on Takumi and Linde.
So I have to ask, have you done this, and if so, what on earth is wrong with you? If you haven't, can you imagine a reason why someone would put a defensive skill on offensive characters with the defensive capabilities of tissue paper and very common oneshot counters? What situation were these people dreaming of when they ate poor innocent Fae?

If they are a defense only team renewal could be a little reasonable I think, maybe they do it so they have more chances to survive and kill your team. Even glass cannons can survive with 1-5 hp if they are lucky so I guess...

Why put it on a Takumi and leave his special as vengeance? You are literally removing some of his offensive potential by replenishing his HP while removing a ton of offensive potential by taking away a slot for vantage or if you don't have it a breaker of some sort.

Renewal is overall still a 10 heal ability and has atleast a use xD.
On Celica it is actually strong for example.
But belive me have already seen worst Heavy Blade on a Azura that sad Ike.
But the most retard thing what i have ever seen was a Azura with Triangel Adept.

I saw desperation on -spd MRobin. So desperation on a character with 25 speed I think it was. That poor Shanna. She didn't deserve this.

I've seen someone give an Effie Defiant Speed while dumping Wary Fighter for Swordbreaker. When I asked why he said so she could double people and proceeded to show me a picture of her doubling a Ryoma half her level...

I honestly have no idea why people do things like this. Maybe because they can?

Lol cute. If he wants to double people so bad, the brave axe would probably be better. Of course if he attacks he gets to quad reds if he leaves sword breaker on.

Ok I can sort of understand with Linde as some may use her as a faux healer. I put renewal on my Camilla, along with ardent sacrifice cause she is the faux healer on my team, and the fortify flier unit for my gronnblading spring camilla. It also fixes damage taken from fury 3.

Camilla has considerably more defense than Linde though, and generally a slightly larger HP pool. Also flier emblem teams have their own defensive advantages generally, if you have access to the right skills and the AI isn't a doofus.
I just do not get the point of wasting sp on renewal for any character that has a combined hp+defenses pool of less than 90 unless they are a support character (like your Camilla) whose main goal is to survive. I have it on my dancer who first of all has fury and an aforementioned pool of 91 because of it, but also has no access to a better level 3 skill at present since she is not an offensive unit and I have no WoM3. Linde could I guess...be used as a healer but at that point why not choose a character with a bigger hp pool and better defenses? Linde has the second worst hp and the worst defense of all the mages available. MRobin would be a good healer if a blue mage had to be on the team for some reason. I've seen like 5 lindes and at least 20 takumis so it is not just one build I am angry at but I think the one that pissed me off the most was LoD Linde with Renewal.
