Refinement choice for Ephraim?

So just wondering what you guys think is better for a +atk -spd Ephraim, to go with his first (Eff) refinement for the auto follow up when above 90% and then going for full player phase and getting something like Death Blow for an A slot and maybe Deflect Magic as his seal to avoid being blown up as soon as one mage attacks him, or if getting his newer Flame Siegmund with Distant Counter in his A slot and having him run on his own to always get free follow ups would be the better option?

I find the eff version better, because it doesn't force you to go all-in on offense, since you keep the hone attack built in and you can buff your allies after dealing with his target, which makes him useful even when he doesn't have a suitable target to kill.

Also, flame Siegmund can sometimes be problematic to trigger, because it's not as easy to fulfill its requirements when you only have infantry movement.

The original refine seems better to me. He's very much a one combat wonder which is fine since he can bring all sorts of support in his other slots. Infantry pulse, panic ploy, other hones or drives or chills or feints or rallies are options he has.

Running an Ephraim off on his own to bait enemies is a recipe for him to get smoked.
