Question for my fellow dolphin friends

When do you drop $$? Is it for a unit you really want, or do you hoard to get a +10 every once in a while, or do you spend when you run out of orbs and have a high pity rate?

This latest hero fest got me thinking. I tend to do the later, as more of a collector than a exclusive 5* merger. Just curious how you non whales shell out for orbs and why.

Translation: Usually for a unit I really want or that has really good fodder. Read: Eir (Fodder), Halloween Jakob (unit) You wouldn't believe the amount of money I spent on Shiro and Siegbert's banner. They're my babies.

Lol. I get it. They are so many good ones coming out now it’s hard to discriminate which banners to prioritize for me.

I haven't bought orbs in a couple months, and I'm trying to stop doing that, but when I did, it was always because there were specific units I wanted. I still haven't +10'd anything, and I don't care about pity rate. I did buy orbs (IIRC) on the PA banner specifically (mostly) to get more merges on my Shigure and Inigo, but I definitely didn't plan on getting to +10. I imagine it would take a whole lot of money to successfully +10 a unit from one banner.

Think we are a lot alike, in some ways. I go in spurts with dropping money here and then stopping for 3-4 months or so. And when I do it’s usually for units I want. I do the pity breaker last me nothing this time in hero fest, but in last legendary hero I got 3) 5* in the circle (free L Lucina and Nina with my drawn L Ryoma, so to speak)

I only brought orbs for H myrhh and even then it was like 20$ that was the first time I broke my ftp rule and then I got a “Luke”. Lol best bet is to wait till the end of the banner then summon and then buy orbs to break pity tbh

H Myhhr killed me to get, in orbs. I think we talked about our struggles trying to get her along with a few others. That evil red orb.

I normally dont drop cash for this game, I used to with little results so I stopped.

However, when I pulled 6 of Eir within the first hour of the banner on f2p orbs, I had to get those 4 extra copies for a +10. Shes my first 5*+10 and I am very proud.

Wow. Every once in a while I hear of someone that lucky with f2p. Congrats on this one.

Thanks dad! Yeah, I find that I get the most pulls within the first hour of a banner. I was literally getting a Eir every 2-3 pulls, same thing happened with Surtr, I pulled 4 within the first hour, nearly back to back. Maybe there is something going on with the first hour?
Also I am amazed someone downvoted my answer, what is there to dislike on an answer to a personal question? I can't be wrong--

Fire and ice also didn’t treat me kindly (I seem to do better on legendary, and regular odd banners oddly), as I was hoping for your luck with Surtr. Hmm... maybe there is with that first hour, can’t hurt to try? Except I’m on east coast so I would have to wake super early! As for the downvote, pure jealousy I am sure. I hoard most of the time and only spend for a specific 5* exclusive for merges or to break a really high pity rate. I don't spend for premium fodder, I let that come as it may.

What amount of money spent qualifies as dolphin.

Good question. In all fairness I would be curious about you, or other whales also. Other than “I have so much money I just spend on what I want” for an answer lol

I've spent just over $6,000, I dunno what I am.

You spend for favorite characters primarily, or the latest and greatest powerful characters? Is there a method to your madness so to speak?

In order:
Characters I really like (Nephenee, Veronica)
Characters I like that have a ton of utility (Veronica)
Characters that cause massive butthurt but aren't garbage (Bridal Sanaki)
Characters that have excellent fodder potential (Bike, Vike, Bridal Sanaki, Nephenee, Veronica, Leagyarn, Loki, Etc)

Units i've spent money specifically to get one or more than one copy of: Nehpenee, Bridal Sanaki, Bike, Vike, Hector, Veronica, Legyarn, Loki, Katarina, Summer Corrin, Winter Tharja, New Years Camilla, Dancing Inigo, Female morgan, Myrrh, Flying Grima, Summer Cordelia, Summer Adult Tiki, Blyn, Halloween Mia.

Nice. Those characters are solid. I got a bridal Sanaki on accident, and she is so much more powerful than I thought. Love using her with Sumia. Just wish her link was Atk Spd or Atk Res, anything other than defense.

I’m kinda a sad player for a day one guy who occasionally spends, my highest exclusive 5* are +3 Sanaki (never tried to pull for one), +3 Ryoma, +2L Ryoma, +2 Sigurd. Wanted to get at least 5 surfers but the dice were cruel.

But tbh, I had 6 OG Hectors at one point, used half for DC fodder, so can’t complan.

I think the highest I have is +4. Got a few of those, but PA!Shigure is the only one I've had to pull all 5-stars to get there. I really need to work on +10ing a couple. I'm such a character hoarder that I usually end up promoting one I don't have in 5-star at all before investing in merges.

Haha! I was thinking the same thing. Got me about four 4* units I have made +10 but no exclusives. Definitely hoarding, including for skills I haven’t inherited over yet like 2 Karla’s, a few spare Hectors, 2 recent Bikes, and so on. Surtr was my one an only chance so far as he had good rates (on paper anyway) and a great character, but as long as it took to get my 1, it didn’t happen. So yeah, you’re in good company. Combat manuals came out for dudes like you and I!

I was SO happy when combat manuals happened. I immediately manual'ed a bunch, and I do it regularly.

I know, right?!?! I figure if I get st least 10, I’ll start turning them into feathers. Right now since it came out, all are becoming manuals.

As a collector, my incentives to spend tend to boil down to three criteria:
1) Seasonals
2) Tellius units and a select few favorites from other games in the series and
3) Husbandos

Generally, the former is the highest priority as they are only available for a limited amount of time. The latter two are high priority as well, but I could theoretically get any non-limited units at any time. They're not going anywhere so I feel less inclined to rush to get them.

As a dolphin, I don't actively try to +10 a 5 Star exclusive . If I just so happen to be lucky enough to pull enough to achieve that (which I was somehow able to attain once), then that's great, but it doesn't feel like a realistic goal at my current spending tier.

Very nice. Yeah the seasonal are hard to get and so rare when they do come back. That’s a smart move on your part really. I need to focus on that more.

New weapon & movement type combinations? Yes.

Bland uninspired unit? Nuuuuuuupe! XD

Distant Counter/Vengeful Fighter? Only on Legendary Banners with corresponding desired color unit.
