When you heavily invest into a Unit (talking premium skills only here like at least 2 5* Units sacraficed) do you go for:
Units that help you the most with a current PvE problem/ are specialised
Units that are considered "strong" and upgrade them even more
Units that you like as a Character (from their game or voiceacting or art waifu etc.)
Units that your barracks lack in/ you still need??
and who has your summoner support your fav Unit or your best Unit?
Im asking cuz i need to justify this Athena i would have the recources for her but here is the stupid part:
I do have a +10 Vanilla set Ayra through insane f2p luck and even if i gave Athena my Summoner Support (wich i would totally do shes awesome) she would just be "as good" as Ayra Stat wise, so yeah why not save me 200k feathers and just sacrafice Lewyn Hector and fallen takumi to Ayra who would be even more beast given my summoner support.
Help me not to make the wrong desicion xP (asking for pve mainly)
Edit: Also I'm a bit scarred hearing that the new Tiki might raise the BST cieling again, that older Units like Athena might one day just not do the trick anymore.
If they're your favourites, you just do it. To me, it's not even a question. It's that simple. I won't make an exception towards characters just because they're better in terms of functionality, and let alone just because they're rare or exclusive in some way.
If your Ayra is basically going to be another Ayra, is that really a bad thing? It sounds like you like her more, and it's essentially the same result with the right investment.
It's likely not going to make a massive difference. I chose to gave Sanaki Special Spiral instead of Lilina. I'm aware Lilina is pretty much the epitome of OHKOs, but I don't really care. I like Sanaki more, and I don't care if she can't oneshot a +10 super Res dumped Berkut's Effie (to which she won't even be there because she has zero merges).
In my opinion, the bit that's giving you a headache is because you're building her too similar to Ayra, and builds that work very well on her.
Try thinking about Athena's unique strengths and weaknesses to come up with something truly unique to her that will make her powerful in her own unique way.
Here's something I threw together.
Looking at Athena, the first thing I note is that she can balance her defences; that's something I aim for with all my weird builds, we can capitalise on this with enemy phase skills.
Also, thanks to her good base speed she'll avoid doubles most of the time unless she's up against some of the obscene newer units, but we can cover for that with speed wave.
Finally, we need something to stop beating over her by charging specials, so we throw guard on her.
Finally, give her noontime so she can keep guard up.
This isn't *great*, she's still not really reaching reliable bulk, especially with her low base HP; but you could probably use it as some kind of jumping off point to start thinking about weirder builds for her.
I find doing crazy stuff like this is what really makes "bad" units work.

To me it's units I like. Even the ones I merge for arena purposes I like.
A!Tiki, Sheena and Fjorm are my arena core and Im slowly building em up but I truly like them. The same can be said for my other +10 projects. Jeorge, P!Olivia, Ares, Rein, Inigo, Lewyn, Soleil, Zelgius, Deirdre, etc.
I only +10 units I like, therefore it helps with maintaining the moment entertaining as I see that number go up with each merge. Otherwise, if I only went tactical I'd get bored quickly IMO. I'd be staring at units I don't even like much, and that's a no go. If I'm gonna waste my time and effort, and potentially money on this game, I'll do it for those I like. Plain and simple.
A good example. For my current Main unit (+6 P!Olivia) I sacrificed a Takumi, a Bridal Ninian, a Ishtar, a Spring Kagero, and a plethora of other top tier units to make her extremely stupid. And I like it that way. If you feel that Athena is a character you like more than Ayra, and you see that they'll be similar, then go for it.
yeah your probably right i really do like one more than the other and it might nag me i didnt pick Athena.
Main thing im asking this is because i allready heavily invested in a +10 Titania because shes one of my all time favs. Sadly for a +10 she turned out to be really "meh" even her legendary weapon couldnt save her, some of the unmerged Cavs are better than her
You're right, Ayra will definitely be better than Athena in a side by side comparison. But that's why you have to step back and ask yourself what really matters to you. Having the best unit possible, or having a great unit that you love. If you care more about Athena than Ayra then it shouldn't weigh on your mind down the road when she misses out on a kill that Ayra would have gotten. The point is to do what makes you happy and keeps you interested in this game, otherwise it won't matter which decision you make.
short and reasonable answer ty, Athena is alot more fun for me then Ayra(the whole Ayra summoning Incident kinda tainted her a bit for me i gotta admit)
Ty for reminding me that amusement is the core of the game i kinda got lost in number tweaking lately, now that i finally do have some rare premium recources
The only thing that really seperates them is R.Astra. Their stats aren't massively far apart, with Ayra winning in raw physical bulk and +2 Atk, while Athena has +1 Spd and +3 Res. Athena's +Def/Res are superboons.
With that in mind, she might be better running Wrath than Ayra. The thing about Wrath some people ignore is that it requires durability if you want to make the most out of combat, unless you're fastest special garantees a oneshot. This is at the cost of Desperation.
Only my favorites get premium fodder,ayra is in my top 5 of favorite fe characters,so I foddered 7 5*'s.
I'm even contemplating about giving her barrier blade + refined for defense for kicks since I'm tired of using her basic dc build and "speed is everything" build I have for her.
If you like her do it,I have a +9 ayra,but that didn't stop me from +10 my soliel and giving her some premium fodder(I love her).
