Question About Merging Units

Is there any benefit to waiting for a perfect IVs unit before merging, or does it not matter?

I haven't made a merged unit yet myself, but I'd probably wait until you get a perfect one for the extra 3 to 4 points in their best stat.

It doesn't matter. If you merge into a sub-optimal unit now, and pull a perfect one later, you can just merge the already merged unit into the perfect one. He will inherit all skills, uncluding if they are learned or not, as well as all +'s you got from merging.

But does it? Consider a unit where in your first merge their highest stat aside from HP is Res due to IV spread (where your ideal unit would have Atk be the first stat to increase). You then get your correct IV and merge into that unit, but it becomes a +2, which takes the second and third highest stats. Atk is now the highest and (potentially) gets skipped so you have an extra point on Res and none on Atk. Or does it work where this is corrected upon merging?

This is exactly why I asked the question; I wonder if, by waiting for the ideal IVs unit before merging, the better stat will be improved, as opposed to merging into a suboptimal unit, and then later to the ideal IVs unit
