Pull rng?

I've been playing since a week or so after release and I've only pulled one 5*. I did some cursory calculations, and determined that for how many characters I've pulled (I've gotten pretty much all the free orbs that have been available), I should have had only a 0.0012% chance of only pulling one 5*. Is there actually something more to pulling than the listed chances? Or am I just one of the (un)lucky thousandth of a percent of players? If so...why me? ):

The issue is that every new summoning focus resets the chance of pulling a 5-star person back to 3%. So even if you summoned a ton with one summon and never got a 5 star, as soon as a different summoning focus replaced that one, your chances would plummet back down to 3%.

Are you doing full summons, where you open all the orbs available? If not you're leaving a lot of 5 stars on the table.
It took me a long time to get my first 5 star (over 100 orbs into the game) compared to most of the people I've talked to but since then my pulls have evened out because I generally do full summons when I'm not looking for a specific character.

I always do full summons. But that shouldn't matter aside from the orb efficiency, should it? Also, I'm almost 500 orbs into the game, if I've been counting the free orbs right ):

Well it does matter, since if you miss orbs you could be missing the 1 five star of the batch. It's all random chance, so you could call it bad luck if you opened 3 orbs and there were 5 stars in the other 2, but that's just how probability works. If you don't open all the orbs you can't say you don't pull five stars, since you don't know if there were any in the orbs you pulled but didn't open. But it sounds like you open them all anyway.

It seems like bad luck. I've had things happen to me with random probability that had a 1 in a billion chance of happening, no joke. In fact I almost died from a drug reaction that less than 0.5% of the population has. So that really sucks, but at least it's just a game? It's too bad we can't trade characters, I'd give you one of my 5 stars that I don't use anymore, I have a +atk -hp Lyn that served me well.

Yeah, I mean, there's hundreds of thousands of people playing the game, so SOME of us are going to end up with cruddy draws, lol. And like you say it's just a game, plus I haven't even spent money on it so it's not like I've lost anything.

Do you have good 4 stars at least? And was the 5 star decent? If not...you can always reroll until you get a couple of good 5 stars. I myself never rerolled but I can see the logic of it if you have bad luck. I also spent money on the game (not a lot) so I didn't feel like throwing that away.

My simple guide to pulling.

Starting 5star and 5star focus percent 3%.

if you get a 5 star within the first 5 pulls while at 3%. stop pulling, the chances of getting a second 5 star is slim and it will reset back to 3 again no matter how many more you open.

Between 3% and 5%, only pull orbs of the color you want. Saving 5 orbs isn't worth it if you never get what you want (and you save 1 orb for every 2nd or more orbs of the same color out of the 5 you pull).

at around 5% or so (or as early as 4%), once you pull a 5 star, pull all the other 4 as well as the rate is heightened and will be lost any ways after you exit the interface.

That is it and good luck pulling!
