Pros&Cons of tri-color TA team (late anwser to HeiTCB16)

Recently I've seen many posts about "how good RavenTome + TA + Breaker builds are" however I've always been a bit reluctant to use TA or gems, and even more about the idea of having one of each color in the team.

HeiTCB16 evocated the idea of having a team with 3 Raven-TA-Breaker units in his team, one of each color, plus Azura for more flexibility.

I think it's actually a fun team idea indeed although it's like a "Rock-Paper-Scizor" idea.

It might work wonders in some chain challenges but in arena, it might be hard to win 7 fights without a losse, since your units are only as strong as they fight the right colors.

Of course, you have the advantage of abusing the IA movements to draw the best out of the TA users but still.

And in the best case scenario, where you clear 7 victories without a losse, you will still rank pretty low in arena because of the low BST, the lost SP (Raven, TA, Breakers are all minimal SP costs) of your units.

That's why I'm underlooking TA skills, since they are just as good for you as they are for the ennemies (at least in theory, now the IA control gives an edge ofc).

Of course if you can use it on a RavenTome user, then you get 2 color advantages for only 1 disavantage (that you may be loosing even without TA anyways) but there is still the last color !

In example, you are a GreenRaven TA user, so you beat Blue and Grey pretty easily, however, you lose harder against Red. But what about Green ? You've a breaker skill, most likely Green tomebreaker since it's more meta. But hey, it's meta, so "everyone" has a greentome breaker on his Green mage too !

Meaning you have no advantage over your color, BUT a disadvantage because your TA3 is useless against Mirror color, when the ennemy may have Fury or a blow skill, or whatever that gives him an edge.

That's why I don't like TA. Plus making the game a simple "rock-paper-scizor" is a bit lame imo.

I think that there's a bit of nuance to it but I agree that 100% TA teams are not optimal. Here are my additional comments.

o Green is a great color for TA in the current Blue Mage dominated meta. Most teams run units that can shutdown the majority of Red units with ease and Green units are relatively rare outside of Nino, Hector, Julia, and Fae.
o Blue is not a great choice for TA in the current meta for the reasons you outlined.
o Red is a bad choice for TA in the current meta. Most Reds should be able to handle the few Greens in the meta without resorting to TA and it limits their ability to pinch hit against Blue glass cannons.
o The stat spread of the unit matters a great deal.
-- TA can make unit with high SPD and low ATK viable on the offensive.
-- TA can make a unit with high DEF and low RES better at tanking common threats. It sounds strange but Hector with an Emerald Axe does surprisingly better against the Blue Mage meta.
-- TA gives support units like Dancers the opportunity to fill the secondary role of dedicated check/counter. This is valuable.
o At least in the arena, Raven tomes are not as viable as they once were due to the growing irrelevance of any colorless units not running Bravebow. High DEF units with DC can handle Bravebows and be more generally useful than a dedicated Raven tome (with some notable exceptions such as flier teams).
