Power creep? More like speed creep.

I mean, don't get me wrong, the overall power creep is happening, but we've been min-maxing our units for speed so much lately that the speed cap keeps getting higher and it's starting to feel silly to me. I'm sitting here trying to decide whether 50/41 atk/spd is good enough for my Olivia, or if she needs to be 47/44. Remember when 35 speed seemed like a lot, and 30 was considered good enough for Nowi to avoid most doubles? Good times, those were. Good times.

What you're referring to is literally me. I still think 39-40 Spd doubles a really good margin, it's just that people generalise outliers.

From what I've come across at tier 20 it's really mainly swords, B!Lyn, and Nino that reach into the 40's. Today I saw an Ayra with 50 Spd! I mean my Effie still ORKO's her but damn.

My Ayra can hit that speed. She’s at 48 with a speed+3 seal, gains 3 from Fjorms water blessing and a further 3 from dual rally spd/def. Hits 54 speed, 59 for me if she’s stood next to Brave Ike, who spurs spd/def, and is her ally support.

I've been playing Heroes ever since the first banner, and I have to say that 35 speed was NEVER considered "high." 35 speed might've been decent back then, but never high, since everybody had Lucinas flying about, and from time to time the casher variant, Ryoma.

Even Lucina and Ryoma only had 35-6 spd at neutral and pre SI there were fewer ways to raise SPD.
35 was good back then because you avoid most doubles, most importantly from the horde of Takumi in the arena.

35 as a Spd tier isn't just about avoiding doubles, even to the day. That's a lot of Spd with the right skills and buffs. And it just goes back to what I said about outliers. Lucina has always been one faster characters. She ties with Nino.

41 speed is plenty for your Olivia. Yes, there are some crazy builds that pop up with obscene amounts of speed, but really, they're more the exception than the rule.

So can a +Spd Genny, for whatever it's worth. The thing is, they don't. The more optimal sets on characters like that focus on other kind of IVs and skillsets, so it's not like you'll see a Darting Blow +Spd Nowi with +3 Spd Seal and dedicated weapon refinement (more Spd). She's far more likely to run something like Fury/TA > QR.

Hold on a sec you don't need to be +10 to have a 40 speed Nowi at all. +Spd with fury, weapon refinery for speed, and speed +3 sacred seal gives you 39 speed UNMERGED. Legit only need one or two merges to reach 40 speed

My Summer Corrin is at 48 unbuffed (50 with LnD) and even that is way overkill imo. Considering flier buffs. Never failed to double anyone. And with blade tome Desperation nothing survives, not even greens.

It's crazy because 40 isn't really that hard to reach anymore. Even a +Speed Boey with Fury, Summoner Support, speed +3, and A tome refined for speed can hit 40 base speed. A freaking Boey.

yeah, when the summer banner rolled out and i got a +atk/-res s.gaius, i gave him fury and he was my go-to archer because of his 40 spd and ability to double. But lately, i find that he barely doubles anything anymore without a speed buff.
