I Never wished to go up to the tier 20. I am always fine staying in 18-19 so that i can keep my +4 orbs rewards. However since i have hhenry and i am using an half armor emblem how to many point i Need since untill now i got 4750. I used hhenry for boost point and reinhardt counter/magic check,bk Red counter,ninian blue and dance but azura is fine too and bridelia for kills. I would Wish to put hjakob there It he has brave bow but he wouldn't kill ad much as bridelia.
To get to Tier 20, you need roughly around 4800 to get to the next tier. I think it should be doable if you have Armour Emblem, but don't expect to stay in Tier 20 afterwards since you need really high merges at that point, still, you get 4 orbs and nice amount of feathers regardless if you stay or drop a tier.
I’ve asked this question recently as well. As of recently you need at least a SCORE of ~4950 to comfortably stay in rank 20. This is my F2P team so yeah, unless you invested early on in the game with a good and easily accessible merge unit (like a +10 nino or donnel) or you are a whale it’s actually quite difficult to stay in rank 20.
