Played Ultimate for the first time
This game is hard as FUCK. It looks like Smash 4 on the surface, but it feels so different and technical once you actually play it. You can virtually do anything out of dashes now, which really expands the game. I was literally dumbfounded at the amount of options. Didn't even know what to pick.
It can feel very Melee-like in certain aspects, and abusing dash/extended dashing is definitely one of those. There's even a sort of form of wavedashing (not sure how functional it is, yet). Even for someone with a competitive backround in Brawl and Smash 4, this game feels incredibly different. I was just another n00b.

Its not wavedashing its sort of an easier version of it I guess. You just crouch after you run and you can do anything out of it like you were walking. Its like a less slidey wavedash. Its actually not very technical but the engine is faster than those games so maybe that's why you're having a hard time? Im probably going with Roy and Bayonetta in this game too :)
If you have any questions just hit me up as someone else with a competitive background in smash

No, it's virtually a wavedash in every sense of the word. You know, airdodging to the ground and everything...it's not as functional, but at least it's a decent Waveland.
I struggled a lot because I never really sticks to basics. I try to do fancy stuff, and that includes the new extended dash dancing where you're constantly flicking the stick back and forth...it's actually ridiculously fun. I just have to get smarter at applying.
It's nice to find someone else of the sort.

Well, I've solo mained Corrin since he/she came out...but no. This time around, I'm 99% sure I'm sticking all Zelda. I personally do a lot better centered on one character, and I did fairly well because of it.
The new dashes aren't exactly new. Extended dash dancing has been here since Melee or Brawl. It's just you're usually using the foxthrot-like version to weave in and out of people's zone. The more traditional dash dance (usually in place) is still there, but doesn't do a ton other than adding some style.
