People's thoughts on the phantom BST skills?

I don't know how to feel about it. I mean, on the surface, it feels like bringing a knife to a gunfight. But then I feel like the only reason Refreshers, healers, certain Flyers, range 2 units, Etc don't make it into Arena is because of the stupid broken scoring system and not because they are any less capable.

Still, they make you give up an a slot without any tangible Improvement for the privilege of being Arena viable

They should have fixed the broken scoring system that kills all diversity in arena directly rather than introducing yet another paid way to get some very small improvement

I don't know how it'll impact me. I'll have to wait and see if it impacts my getting into T21 every other week.

I think that they are a great idea, obviously the characters carrying these skills don't score as much as 175BST units, and i feel like it's the right decision, like people who spent money have a little bit more.
The skill being in the A slot is also the best possible option as you will have to give it to your core which is not meant to take kills anyway, and the A slot is normally used for offensive skills, also the units gets +5hp which is something that could turn out to be usefull when you don't expect it.

Report

I'd prefer if they were seals. Too many possible targets for what duel skills we have need their A skills.

Report

I just hope they'll bring em in more, in differend ways.
If it's just a few +5 hp skills on 5* exlusive characters, it's kinda ehh

Personally I'm not that interested in getting into tier 21, but I can see why it annoys people.

Someone will hate me but ok, I think the new Duel skills are a "good" thing cause it will help the support units score better and since they won't fight giving up the A skill slot won't hinder them from doing their job(that is to support the bonus unit).

Yes they could have just fixed the arena scoring itself but when the "bonus unit kill bonus" thing became a thing, my hopes of IS fixing the arena scoring became almost nonexistant at that point. so if they won't fix it then the next best thing is to make Arena work properly this time.

Report

What they should do is 1) remove the bonus kill system - 2) alter the team scoring element of arena's bonus unit system (where the bonus unit multiplies the team score) so that instead the arena seasonal bonus units get treated as having the Duel skills as a free/additional/secondary A skill.

This would give BST 175 units perennial scoring value and allow them to be removed as bonus units, and importantly it would also allow the season's units to run optimal sets, instead of HP +5 as an A skill.

Meanwhile, by removing the bonus kill system, they wouldn't be punishing people who have none of the bonus units except for the Askrans or Fjorm (who have limited merge potential), and they'd also be allowing people to employ the same teams and strategies as they usually employ (but still meanwhile getting something from the seasonal system).

If they then also gave the Askrans special duel A skills that treated them as +10 merge, then, during their bonus seasons, they'd be treated as maximum scoring units!

Report

Actually, I came up with a better system.

Within the arena pane, they could have it so that the bonus units have a configurable "Duel Slot" for the season. Within the duel slot, if, say, Lilina is an arena bonus unit, the user gets to choose a duel skill to confer to any Lilina that is on their team. These duel skills would allow for any of the 5 stats to be modified (instead of just HP +5, there's Attack/Speed/Defense/Resistance +3 as well), and they would allow for 4-star Level 40 units and 3-star Level 40 units to have boosted bst totals (to 165 and 160, respectively). There would so be 15 variants of duel configuration (or 5) for each seasonal unit. (The purpose of this system as opposed to the previous one is to allow players to play the season's units as they normally would - they wouldn't have to alter the play style of units that they designed around HP thresholds.)

I currently don't care for them. At least not until infantry blue comes out. I'll immediately put that on my +8 Micaiah and she'll be back on my team.

Report

Care to make some predictions?

Hríd: blue. Infantry?
Ylgr: colorless. Infantry or cavalry?

Because goodness knows we need to see more of our favorite colorless cavalry units.

Report

They're a terrible substitute for what should have been an actual Arena scoring fix. At the very least, they could have been put on a different, less important slot like C or as a Seal.
