Is Odin worth it?

Gotta admit his artwork is a ginormous turn off, somewhere between a mask-less Mexican wrestler and a penniless uncoordinated pole worker. That said I haven’t played his game so maybe his personality is ok.

That all aside, is his skills worth turning him into a something? +Atk? Thoughts?

Let me rephrase this way. Pretend I don’t know him and want to give him merits in his power alone. Is he worth investing 20k feathers and possibly more?

Report

No. He's a labor of love.If you don't already like him, you probably wont like him.

Pros:
Best weapon animation in the game
Is true to himself
No one would expect to fight him

Cons:
Garbage stats
Other units do his job better
Needs a team built around supporting him to make him shine

Report

That's what I meant by it. He isn't anything above average even with a strong refine. There's tons of other better FTP mages you could choose over him. Lilina is really strong, Reinhardt is always a good blue mage without a refine. Nino is still pretty good. If you want specifically blue you could go for Tailtiu who is also always good.

Report

No he isn't. Unless you have an attachment to the character he simply isn't worth the feathers. Even his refine (which is interesting) isn't really enough to save his piss poor attack compared to other units that can use a blade tome.

Report

In my opinion, yes. I have a +6 Odin (my current merge project) and he's now one of my favorite units. Sure, he's not the best blue mage in the bunch, but he can hold his own.

+6 +Spd/-HP
Odin's Grimoire (+eff)
Swap
Brazen Atk/Spd 3
Desperation
Threaten Spd 3
Speed +3

I'm still testing him out and working some stuff out with his set. I might get rid of Desperation and put in Special Spiral, and the Speed seal with something else, but I really like him. If there's an enemy that he can't kill, he can easily Reposition/Swap/Pivot out of the way, give his ally a +6 attack and speed buff, and then have them kill, or tank, the enemy.

Def/Res Link is also a nice B skill, but I don't have that.

He also has really decent HP and bulk, so he can run a defensive set fairly well from the looks of it.

He turned pretty flexible with this new prf and refinement, and I'd recommend him to anyone looking for a flexible blue mage with a slightly different style of play.

Report

Just to add a bit more onto him:

Odin has the 4th highest defense of all blue mages in the game, under M!Robin with 29, and Reinhardt and LA!Lyn with 27.

Out of those 4 units, he has the 2nd highest resistance, LA!Lyn being the first with 34 base resistance. He's the weakest in terms of raw power (arguably), but he's probably one of the most flexible blue mages we have. Tailtiu is the stronger Bladetome mage, that much is true, but she doesn't hold a candle to Odin in terms of mixed bulk with her 17 base defense.

And let's not forget that Odin has the role of support thanks to his Atk/Spd Link in his Grimoire, allowing him to support units without Spd Tactic, the rarest Tactic skill of them all.

You've already made up your mind, I'm just trying to shed some light on areas that most people either fail to notice, or just flat-out ignore.

Great feedback, exactly what I was looking for, thanks guys. I’ll hold off for now but will keep him in the corner of my eye.

Report

Yes, he is.

But for one, +Atk is one of those issues I feel people erronously address. Same goes for someone like Henry...you're just trying to salvage their weakest points instead of maximising their strongest ones. In this case, I'd go with Spd since it allows him to double a crapton.

The idea is a very simple. Maximise as much Atk & Spd possible. His refine ability already gives him +6 Atk/Spd, which saves you from needing Atk & Spd Tactic (latter of which I find pretty rare).

Report

okay, from an objective standpoint:

No, there are better options like Tailtiutiu.

An actual person/not a robot/subjective point of view:

If you like him, yes.

Report

Not really. Even with a new refine, he’ll still struggle to reach passable amounts of Atk....

Report

If you like him and you're willing to invest into him then yes, he's definitely worth it, especially if you buff all his stats. Def/res link is really good on him but since it's hard to get, you can also use hones and tactics skills to use him at his full potential.

Here is a pic as proof of how strong he can be.That Gunnthrá had 38 res, but he almost one-shot her anyway. And earlier, he actually did one-shot a M!Grima.

He has no problem dealing with most units after being buffed, and can reach very high amount of damage. Plus, he's an awesome partner to have, since he can easily buff his allies. He and Legendary Lucina in particular make a great pair.

My Odin has an expensive build, but even with a budget one (i recommend +spd ivs btw if you're not planning on merging him, otherwise +atk is great on him) he's better than before for sure. His tome definitely patches up his poor base attack and he can actually become deadly if you use him right.

Report

He’s definitely worth it. Especially if you give him def/res link. Although most bladetome blue mages can outdmage him, most of them lack the ability to buff themselves.
