Null Follow Up or Guard

My favourite unit due to versatility is my +9 Nowi (-HP +SPD SS). Unfortunately as I get to the higher levels of arena, I've noticed more and more of fighter skill armors. With guard she can prevent some specials even when doubled by a bold fighter unit, others still make it through like 2CD specials.

Null Follow Up would allow her to become a much better multiphase unit as she could negate QR3, brash assault, all fighter skills, etc.
The only issue is when she is hit by those who already outspeed her. Guard helps a lot in that scenario as it prevents specials and given how tanky Nowi is, she can take 2 normal attacks.

The issue that arises is that a bunch of fast units with good specials can now 1RKO her if their specials activate.

As a side note, do merges count towards Arena Score? It's been unclear and I genuinely am curious.

For Nowi +spd it depends on the mode. In arena I think you definitely go null follow-up. Allows you to chip QR tanks to help the bonus unit, protects against bold fighter. Guard accomplishes similar objectives for less orbs, but she'll take more hits. In PvE, null follow-up is mostly a waste. Few units will try to force doubles against you. Just use QR.

I have Nowi+5 on +spd -res, just to give some perspective.

Thanks, I assumed as much, especially with only 1 null follow up fodder. I am reluctant to give it to her even though it seems amazing for Arena. Unfortunately in pvm it will rarely come into play. I will probably still end up giving it to her, but thats because I can just switch between Guard and Null Follow Up.

You might like to consider giving null follow-up to someone like Sothe or Legault or even Felicia if you're into arena scoring. Legault can actually be pretty tanky, especially with fortress def/res (because he's fast enough not to need spd from his A-skill), and Sothe will make people cry on defense teams if you give him swift sparrow and support him with a WoM dancer.
