Níu synergies?

Ok. After messing around I've confirmed that Niu
1. counts field buffs
2. Gives Laegs a combat buff to each stat equivalent to half the total field buffs.
3. Doesn't factor in debuffs, so if a unit has +4atk and -7atk, she'll get a +2 combat buff.

This weapon is crazy good. She's surviving all kinds of stuff that could kill her, especially after the enemy gives itself a useless res boost or something.

But how does it interact with Panic? And could it stack with dull close or dull ranged for extra punishment?

Panic status reverses the buffs, so it would not work with Niu. Dull skills nullify buffs, so it also won't work.

The bad thing about Niu is that you can't do anything to reverse the enemy buffs or you lose your own buffs from Niu. You either have to fight the enemy when they have extremely high buffs to get a decent effect, or you can use panic ploy to get rid of the buffs, but at that point, you should use a different sword.

In general I'd say Níu and Safeguard are about equal in good options.
Níu has much higher potential, but is situational.
Safeguard is more solid if you're going for tank.

One strong point about Níu is that it also boosts res. So if you have a neutral or especially boon in res, Níu can help taking magic hits.

Safeguard works well with -res, to allow for pure and simple melee baiting.

You said half the “total field”bonuses... did you mean half the “individual enemy bonuses” that she is attacking?

It works whether she's attacking or being attacked, first of all.

I am using the term "field buffs" to refer to the blue bonus that appears on a stat and upwardly modifies it, and can be checked outside of combat (FYI long-press on the enemy's stat line to see all active bonuses and penalties, you will see that even if a number is red it can still have a buff, it's just counteracted by a penalty).

When I say "total field buffs" I mean that if she is in combat with an enemy that has +4/4/4/4, that's 16 points of field buffs. She gets half of 16 added to each stat as an in-combat buff. So +8/8/8/8.

So if it means the same thing that you said, then yes. But I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say "individual enemy bonuses."
