New Arena 1 week in thoughts?
So after the announcement of the arena changes was made, I asked how everyone felt about the changes beforehand, just to get a feel for the community reception of the changes. Now with the first season done with, I would like to see if they changed at all.
For me personally, I feel my initial thoughts were correct, at least for me. The new arena has been made easier, and for me, not as enjoyable. AA still poses as big a challenge as it ever did so I still have that but Arena was somewhat of a joke to me. Granted this is coming from someone that spent 2 months preping his core to stay in arena just to see if I could be up to the challenge, so my view is very biased. The TT buffs I still think were a bad idea, it took the fun out of figuring out how to use a typically weaker unit effectively. The shorter runs take some stress off, but give less satisfaction after a perfect run. I appreciate IS trying to make one of the games most imposing modes less imposing, and I know I am in the minority of those that try for T20 arena each week, but the changes just felt like a step in the wrong direction to me.

I mean... I guess? Arena is about as enjoyable as it was before, AKA I don't like it. It's basically the same units being used over and over (Dragons/Armored/Ayra/Nohrzura/etc). Arena always felt like it was "done wrongly" for me because it relied *too strongly* on "skills with the most Arena weight" so a lot of people always used Dual Rally skills + units with super high BST rather than units they liked to use, so it was always extremely repetitive, so it's not like it really changed much, at least for me.
People are still using the same units, I can still do a full run (I'm glad it was shortened to 5) and I'm not trying to stay in T20.

Same here, Arena is fun when I see unique teams vs my favorite units, and since that's extremely rare, I find that arena is lackluster to me. It just is. To me it needs more variation, not simply making us use the same stuff over and over, cause to me, arena is more of a chore than it is a challenge IMO

Yeah I agree. The buff didn't change much, we choose units that score well and not necessarily fight well and I believe most of the people can abuse AI movement easily to their advantage. IS should increase the difficulties instead, at least scale up for higher tiers, or create arenas based on movement types etc.

Yeah, I feel the same way about the boost to the bonus unit's stats. Arena is meant to be challenging, but these boosts make it so much easier to win the matches without dying and a lot of the challenge is now gone. I also think that this is an attempt at cash-grabbing on IS's by encouraging players to roll on new banners for the new units in case they don't have any of the old characters or refuse to upgrade the Ask trio. (Also, R.I.P. Defense rewards.)
However, I do like that only 5 wins are needed to complete a set, and that the rewards are given based on the win streak rather than the Offense awards of the past. These changes do encourage more people to give Arena a try, so I guess I can appreciate the changes for that.

I like the shorter chain, as it removes some of the fear of getting shafted on like battle seven, but I don't think the tt buffs are all that great and make it a little too easy to use that unit. Especially this last season with already good characters that I was using like siegbert and camus they end up just being unstoppable. I was soloing t19 maps with camus and buffs due to the stat boost

It's kinda sad I actually tried harder, like avoiding this battle because it only gave a score of like 700 or 702, and ended up doing 2 full runs ending with a score of 3526. But for the first time since I first broke into T20 (obviously I fall out each time) like about 2 months I've fallen back down to T18... I even calced out that roughly my score would have been 4936 which had been consistently keeping me in the T19.5 bubble. So I don't know the new changes kinda makes me feel less inclined to try in arena now going forward outside of getting the 5 in a row rewards. Cause I must have wasted like 25-30 crests this arena season when the past like month or so I'd been only using like 2-5 crests per arena season.
And I know someone is going to mention needing to merge more characters but I don't want to waste my time on characters I don't want to use just to do better in arena. Meanwhile for my main merge project Fir, I can only get her to +5 currently. I also have not had the luxury of ever being able to pull a Hector, so I don't have access to DC units that don't have it innately on their weapon.

Honestly arena is only something i do for the 4 orbs so scoring does not matter unless its to avoid falling to 17 which gives 3 orbs.The teams be so boring nowi,fae,sheena,reinhardt etc. just consistently for me there like a one trick pony it worked the first time,but now its repetitive,I understand some people like scoring high or just like those particular characters though.

I feel I might be reverting back to this kind of mentality. I was never going super hard for score but I had been trying to keep bouncing between 19 and 20. But after the changes I actually tried harder than previously to score better only to finally fall back to 18 and it's definitely not worth trying to use 20 something crests again if I'm not even going to make it to T20 anyway opposed to previously when I would use like 2-4.

I agree with the guy everyone roasted the other day of "thanks to the filthy casuals it's impossible to stay in high tier arena" minus the casuals part. Before I could blow through t18, rise to 19, fall and repeat occasionally to t20, I'm at like 3400 and i fell to t17 cause I had 1 loss. It's kinda lame, I enjoyed the old system since you didn't need perfect runs outside of t20, but now you do, and you just have to hope you roll max AP to get to t17+
