There really is no alternative to Bold Fighter. You can go with something else to make him a mixed phase unit like Quick Riposte or something, I guess.
Of course, Vengeful Fighter is better than Quick Riposte, but that's more expensive.
You may use Effie's wary fighter to avoid being doubled all the time. Bold fighter really makes the build, but if not weary fighter get the job done. For C I'd go with Threaten Def or some smoke Def/Atk.
