Need Desperate Help Coping with Arena

I love this game; I really enjoy it, but I am so close, close as the distance between your fingers and the keyboards, to uninstall the game because I freakin hate arena. I hate it as much as Satan hates humanity. It's not fun for me, all it does is gives me stress cause of the need to have 7 perfect win in a row which is just made harder thanks to the dancers who can either move first or after another unit to dance them. Which one will they do, I don't fckin know?
I don't think IS will be changing arena anytime soon, so I'm gonna need to deal with it for feathers, but I don't how. Please help me, how do you guys manage to play arena without wanting to flip tables?

P.s I hate Reinhardt enough to not surrender even if the win won't be perfect. I'll surrender to the next person without a Reinhardt and start the chain again.

Edit: Thanks to everyone who responded. I've decided to take it easy with Arena and whatever happens, happens. I just want to get 5000 feathers a week, so if with the arena feathers I don't reach it, then the daily quests will. No need to work so hard for high tiers anymore.

Arena is pretty hard, especially if you're free to play, like I am. One piece of advice, is to create 4 star +10 merged characters (I'm doing this with Nino). The benefit of this is she'll have the bst of an infantry unit, so she won't lower your arena score, and she can deal with Reinhardt. And you'll have to surrender after losing one unit if you plan on getting a high score. And also, when you're looking at the three battle options, if the character is a cavalry unit or Pegasuses, don't even risk it, as it could be a horse or flier emblem team. It's better to waste one dueling sword than lose your steak. Other than that, arena is kinda luck based. Hope this helped a little.

I'm Ftp, but I have units that can handle some of the cavaliers. I got a 5 stars Nino, but with Life and death; A Julia, but with +Spd/-Atk so I have negleted her, thinking she won't do very good. Other than those, I do not have other good res units that can counter attack mages. It is really one of the difficulties that I have when making a team.

Report

Ah, try changing your Nino's A skill from Life and Death to Fury and give her an HP seal. That should allow her to survive almost all forms of Reinhardt (even some QP Moonbow variants).

I'm a ftp player, and as much as I wish I could resonate with those feelings, I can't. I jumped on the horse emblem bandwagon a long time ago, and I can consistently get 7 straight wins with my team of Rein, Cecilia, Xander, and Camus, all of which I had to 5*. I would recommend making that team (you don't even need rein because bladetome cecilia is way too broken), and your time in arena will go much smoother. HMU for more details.

I am now considering it and I would like a Leo to do it. But I am not going to put that kind of team as defense. I know the pain and frustration of having to face a horse emblem so many times.

This week has the worst maps in rotation, especially against horse emblem. A Reinhardt check/counter is essentially a requirement, and with many of these maps being very compact, killing a unit turn 1 is a necessity (at least for me). Otherwise, you risk being run down. I don't really have any advice for teambuilding, but all my units are player phase oriented. I tend to use Linde, Nino, Cherche/Sharena, and a bonus unit (either Anna or Alfonse). Linde is rare, but the other units are either starters or relatively easy to pull as a 3* unit (though Cherche requires a lot of investment). I find myself swapping between tiers 19 and 20, but I'm content with it right now.

Report

I tend to use Ike, Nino, Corrin F and Olivia, but I switched one with out with a bonus unit. WIth good positioning, they work like a charm. This week, to get more points, I switched the Olivia(4*) for a Klein(5*). I'm working on making specific arena teams for each of the starter units.

Report

Great! I spent the past 5 to 6 weeks 5-starring all my starters and completing their builds, and despite the amount of time it took, I still think it's worth the effort, especially since I'll always have a bonus unit for arena now.

Report

Basically you need an answer to horse emblem.
Nino pared with any supports who can give +Res and +Speed will tear down the blue mage and can usually kill the green mage too. Then you need a lance user to counter xandar. Azura is fantastic to pair with Nino if you have her because she fills both those roles. The hardest part of horse emblem to counter is Camus because he will kill your Nino.

You also need a tanky hero like Xandar, Zephyr or similar to deal with Takumi and Hector teams.

That leaves your last slot for whatever fits. And yes I got all these heroes from FTP, my Nino started life as 4* as did Zandar and Zephiel who I won in GHB.

Report

For this week I using Sharena as my blue, but she's just a 4 star at the moment, and I think now that I am being to cautious with her, so I use Ike to tank anything that is not blue, but the recent experiences have been that the dancers, usually being Azura or Ninian, are close enough to get him or to dance a unit to catch my team after getting backing a bit.

I hate arena sometimes too, but this week has been really bad in particular. All matchups I've gotten this week are either horse emblem, mage emblem, or fury3+vantage3 emblem. Like 4/5 teams have Reinhardt, and like 1/4 I'll get the worst map ever against a team designed for that map. Now more than ever it feels like if I go into a battle there's more of a chance that I have zero chance of winning on that map against those units.

My poor little Fae had to get turned into a monster just to counter KO Reinhardt and tank other hits on the first turn.

Report

I am not a fan of the boat map and the mountain map; anything that goes in the middle will be destroyed by mages, so with that mentality in my mind, I play defensively and wait for them to be as close as I can get them.

I'm f2p at tier 20, which is the highest possible tier a player could have for the number of weeks I've been playing. I've certainly run into annoying situations where losing a unit was inevitable, but in the end, most of the time strategic maneuvering (and a bit of luck) allowed me to get deathless streaks every season to get me to where I am now. Take your time to carefully analyze all possible scenarios, particularly if there's a dancer: I always consider what would happen if the dancer moves first, and if another unit moves first and gets danced. Admittedly, there are situations where I simply see no way out. However, I never let deaths get to me to the point of rage quitting. If you're frustrated with arena, just change your mindset: it's not going anywhere, you don't have to be at the highest tiers for the highest orb rewards, and it's not the only content in the game. It really isn't the end of the world if you don't rank up. I'm definitely ranking down this season, but I'm not bothered by it because I'll still be getting 4 orbs even if I'm missing out on 1k feathers. BTW, having positioning skills like Reposition on all or most of your units is great.

Report

BTW my team is Ike (rerolled for him and got lucky even though his banner was long gone), Frederick (promoted to 5*), Camus (promoted to 5*), and a bonus unit (this week happened to be Mathilda so I have 3 horses, but they don't even have cavalry buffs so I don't think it really counts as horse emblem. Mathilda usually just sits in the back anyways cuz she sucks ass.)

Report

My goal is to get the most feathers that I can, so I usually want 5000, cause that way after a month I can 5 one of the many units that I have( I really like building a character.) But usually that can take long, really long if you want to inherit a 5* skill and weapon, and also need to rank up a 3* to get their skill. It's messed up like today's economy. I really wish they move a lot of the rank requirements for skills down.
Also, I am not touching rank 20 with a ten feet pole. Whenever I'm in rank 19, I forget about Deathless streak cause I know that even with it I probably won't land in there, and I wouldn't want to fight to stay in there.

Don't get frustrated. Some f2p peeps do very well, bit dont compare yourself with spenders. Of course they will have advantage and they should since the game is a business and spending should give you some sort of an advantage otherwise what is the point. However, f2p players should specialize even more and ficus on a handful of heroes instead of trying to build everything. Start with a certain build you want and perfect it and then move to the next.

Lastly remember it is just a game and whether you are tier 20 or 1, it doesn't make you that much more or less of a person. For me I don't care for arena, I just like collecting and building heroes. I can be tier 20 easily if want to, but I like staying in the 17 to 18 range nice arena is mostly the same thing over and over at the end. At the end, most people have same builds and heroes.

What I like to see is for them to expand maps and allow 5 heroes instead of 4.

Report

That's the thing, I like building Heroes in this game and I want to keep doing it, but I need feathers and the supply and demands of feathers are not balance in my opinion, cause if I want a 5* skills, I'm going to have 5 star another unit just to get that skill, and if the're s 4* skill, but I have the fodder in 3* then I'm going to have spend feathers for that skill too, making me waste more than 40,000 feathers. Aaarrhg, it's annoying. that's why I play Arena, I care not for the ranks, just the feathers and I try to keep up with a quota of 5000 feathers a week, so that I can rank up a 4 star

Report

Most skills aren't worth 5 starring to inherit. I use mostly 4 star skills for most part. Fury 2 isn't that big of a difference from 3 nor is lnd 2 and 3. Qr 2 and 3 is no big. The one you want 3 for sure is vantage.

Just take ur time and it'll happen.

I've been F2P my whole time playing this game. The way I see it is that if you score over 4000 and get your defense, that's about 3000 feathers right there. Don't read to much into tiers. I've never gone about Tier 18 and it's been fine. You still get 3 orbs and a decent amount of feathers. You are bound to make mistakes while playing, everyone does. At the end of day, if I can get the feathers for my score and defense, I don't really care about my tier.

My suggestion for Arena is to have someone who can counter/tank Reinhardt (preferably a green mage or Emerald axe user). He's harmless once you are able to get up close with him. As for dancers, be wary of the danger zone (in actuality, it will be far larger). If they have WoM, focus on KOing one target.

Report

Yea, Wings of Mercy is cancer. One shot the unit or just keep all of your other units away from the one who is tanking/engaging. Quickened pulse+ Moonbow and Triangle Adept is usually enough to take down a foe. If you're baiting use Quick Riposte 3.

Report

Wings of mercy fucked both of my deathless attempts because I didn't one shot a unit... Still in Tier 20 range even with a death due to my units Rating. I need to pay more attention. By the way here is a Reinfart counter example. With this setup Reinfart will engage your unit and do double digit zeroes. If Cecilia is in range she will die easily, and Reinfart will do no damage at all. Just watch out for Leo's stacking on his threat range, in this case bait him and kill or find a square only Reinfart can reach. Then use your blue to snipe Leo. Any Axe user with high ATK will work with this build, or a Lightning Breath Fae plus TA if you lack a Hector(though she does significantly less damage to mages because of her breath attacks. You don't really need Distant Counter, just a unit who can soak his damage and any other unit in threat range so you can kill him on player phase. You can also use the unit as a counter to archers if you can find one with middle of the road Defense and Resistance(around 30 points each). Hope this helps.
