my thoughts on the new banner

i'm going to share my thoughts on the "brave redux" or whatever the name is here lol
loki: i don't care much for her. never really cared much for her role in the main story either.
kliff: he looks so cute!! his art looks amazing (bless tobi) and i've seen a lot of people talk about him and he looks to be a defensive mage to me which i find unique since most mages in this game are glass cannons.
owain: sksjdkdjsks omg he was one of the few heroes i really wanted in this game and he made it!! that blue flame special he has looks op af man and his special quote "sacred stones strike!!!" just makes me want to pull for him lmao

YAAASSSSSSSSS

Let's all geek out over Kliff together! I'm so happy e's gonna be soooo good. He has a kit that tells me he is gonna be the tanky mage released and I'm so excited for it. I'm guessing he's gonna have high speed as well making him a really strong revenge killer.

Report

It’s a pure skip for me. Already have Veronica, Kliff doesn’t interest me (even though I really like defensive mages), Owain looks nice but IS made him an enemy phased unit.

Report

Kliff. They basically made him exactly how I wanted him which is a huge plus. I would also go for Owain, so maybe when I run out of blue orbs I'll pull red. I have a feeling Loki is gonna be run a lot from now on so I'm not sweating over her.

Report

I mean...what are you waiting for besides more information when the next few banners get released? If you wait for him to appear on a legendary banner, you're gambling on whether the other focus blues are good and even if they are, he becomes harder to get (albeit arguably cheaper, which would be the point). If you try for one copy now with a good number of orbs, you pay maybe 30-50 more orbs to have him for an extra few months (some of which might be relatively dry in terms of interest) and to get away from the possibility of him sharing with focus units you don't want or just getting straight up shortchanged because only 0.67%. (Arguably, you'd also be running a risk this way because if he appears with focus units you do want...)

Report

Well, we get free Aversa. At least she isn’t in the banner, she would of created chaos as Owain is a red unit as well.

Finally a red tome flier, reminds me of those days where I really wanted S!Tana/S!Y!Tiki..

My only hope is that she’s speedy because blade tome Ftw.

Loki:
- that staff is actually really good. It can take a lot of bite out of Reinhardt/B.Lyn/B.Veronica + dancer or just ranged units in general.
- surprised me that colourless infantry duel came so fast. I thought they would make people pine for it. Now daggers and healers are getting into arena. Still not worth the extra points unless crowns are redeemable for some kind of tangible reward, which would be pretty aggravating.
- Generally speaking, a fodder mine.

Kliff:
- looks to be a really interesting unit. Really looking forward to seeing the statline.
- growing light is the piece of the base kit that doesn't make sense. You need good visible atk to make that work, but that runs counter to his weapon and A-skill. Should probably switch to bonfire/ignis and iceberg/glacies. Need to see the statline to be 100% sure.
- fortress def/res is powercreep to the ugly. Atk-2? That's...like...nothing. And +6/+6 is massive. Any Azama would have been ecstatic with atk-3 for +4/+4 which is more like how it is with, say, blow skills - swift sparrow doesn't grant +7/+7; it's +4/+4 whereas death blow and darting blow give +6 to only one stat.

Owain:
- RIP DC Ayra
- hello stupid mode
- waiting to see his statline. If the bold fighters can survive the counterattack, maybe, just maybe, there's still some interest to all this.

Generally speaking, not pleased with the direction the game is going. But when I have slept, I'm going to try to sit down, forget the game that I knew in the past, and evaluate what we have now with as little historical bias as possible.

By direction of this game I assume you mean Owain's special? Me as well if I'm being honest. Wrath 2.5 is really REALLY dumb. They didn't need that (He comes with it already what the hell??). He's literally a built in oneshot special. Though to be fair, it's the equivalent of having a 50 def bonfire on you. I just hope he has low defenses so it's easy to kill him. I can't be mad with Kliff though.

Blue flame is definitely the worst offender here, like, just free 25 damage? (because he doesn't get an extra charge on player phase)

By the way, if he can hit hard enough and has the spd to avoid doubles from units that wouldn't die in one hit, DC + aether + special spiral will make him almost impossible to kill.

But fortress def/res is, as I said, pretty ugly, and in the back of my mind is that the generation 3 armours (we're in gen 3 right?) force doubles on both phases while having cooldown accelerators and 180 BST (which is probably actually a good thing for me because it doesn't affect f2p thresholds and I can just have stronger units, but it's frustrating to see) and Peshkatz now comes with firesweep while hitting your res and arena is still absurd and bogus and all they seem to know how to do is throw shitloads of numbers at us ("here, more reinforcements that just have senseless amounts of stats for no reason!")

If they don't show me some major change soon I'm done. I'm not convinced that the game is worth playing in its current state.

I can see why it's a bit on the stronger side. IMO the fortress skills were a mistake rather than needed fixing. I don't think this skill is going to be that bad, just because I think special scumming people is stronger than flat buffs in armor meta. I think they will all still opt for breath skills over this skill. On the bright side, this skill is made for Kliff and people are sleeping on him. With this Weapon and A Slot he has an additional +14 Def, +11 Res, +3 Atk, +5 Speed. That -2 Attack translates into a fury buff without penalty just for his attack stat. It's too early too call, but I think he's gonna end up being one of the strongest ranged counters in the game. I just think they made him really creative and hope they aren't dissuaded for making unique characters like this again.

EDIT: As for other characters getting powercreep. I really hate that they are pushing armors even more than they already are. They don't need more to make them stronger. They really take a lot of the fun out of the game for me. They are fun to run sometimes, but this BSt is getting ridiculous. Veronica is pretty dumb too. Every healer is basically OP just because they gave them all only 2 options to use and it results in them being braindead. I hope they revamp healers, it looks like with Mia they might try at least? I think this time there are more pros than cons here but I'll have to see where it goes.

Allowing wrathful to stack on dazzle I think was a mistake, although to be fair, dazzling staff is already pretty powerful. Pain+ builds work without wrathful. So maybe it wasn't much of a mistake if one at all.

Mia's staff I think was a good addition given the powercreep we're seeing around specials nowadays. Generally speaking I like what they're doing to healers. Introducing some prfs (Hlithskjalf is too much though, especially when it comes with dazzle. If you had to give up wrathful to have dazzle with it I think I could accept it), more special effects such as this gravity ploy.

I think I agree with you that it's the easy ignis/glacies that really makes things a mess right now because ignis and glacies are specials which can and will overthrow the weapon triangle, which means if you're forcing doubles on both phases you just kill everything that doesn't sweep, dazzle, or breaker you. The stats...are a thing...but they would be a lot more manageable if not for the forced doubles combined with extra charges for basically nothing.

Maybe what irritates me so much is that we're seeing units that kill pretty much everything right out of the box. Even Reinhardt needed the right build, and there were units which could take the two hits (and more as time went on), and most people considered brave thunder on a horse a pretty big mistake. What we're seeing nowadays is perhaps worse than brave thunder, because it hits twice with almost no exceptions, and behind it is not a quickened moonbow but an ignis on 40+ def, which is like 80-90% of some units' HP before considering that most armours have good atk.

Overall I think you're probably right that this update does more good than it does harm, so I guess what bothers me is that they're set on continuing in this direction with units that kill everything like it's nothing. People will just abuse that...I wonder if I can maybe play a bit more old-school even with the stupid new tools that are coming in? If I can continue to make interesting plays which are worth watching (even if I don't make videos of them or etc.) then I can consider staying.

Building up characters is fun I admit. Most characters being released nowadays come optimized so little investment is needed in making them work. I don't think it's that bad because it lets me use more characters, but I see what you mean. I highly doubt you'll want to change much on any of the units that come out when you get them.

When I think back on it the only units you ever really change are the obvious demotes. Silas comes to mind, but even what he has works well on him.

Even when Owain is my 2ond favorite character from Awakening (first 1 is Lonqu) I have to skip.

I cant say no to that cute manakete.
