My Calvary Team is a Mess. Suggestions?

I’ve been looking for a Green member for my Calvary team for a while, and I’m hoping Walhart is the answer to the question, but I’ve realized I’m a bit lost on what I actually was trying to do with them. I have no one who can take a magic hit without taking serious damage, and as much as I really like Finn I think I’m going I need a calvary unit to replace him.

Are there any blue calvary units who are good at taking magic hits? On top of that, when it comes to building a defensive Walhart, is Fury/Renewal a better combination than Steady Stance/Chill Defense?

Whoops, Edit, silly me. Forgot to mention:

The two core members of my Calvary team are

WT!Reinhardt
40/46/18/34/24
Meisterschwert
Pivot
Luna
Distant Counter
Vantage 3
Fortify Calvary
Seal Up To Change

Brave Lyn
32/40/30/21/28
Brave Bow +
Shove
Draconic Aura
Swift Sparrow 2
Sacae’s Blessing
Atk Smoke 3
Seal Subject to Change

The highest res blue cavalier is Jagen (the god himself), but it's pretty tough to recommend him just casually like that, because he requires some serious investment.

If you want to take the path of least resistance, you probably can't go wrong with l'Arachel or Ursula. They have 30+ resistance, so when given the right skills (and IV in l'Arachel's case), you can turn them into decent mage tanks. Don't know if that's optimal, but it's definitely possible.

Funny enough, I was actually thinking of building Jagen for this team. I don’t remember if I still have Ursala or L’Archel (I don’t recall ever summoning the later), so I think Jagen might actually be my best choice.

While on the topic of him, what do you recommend for Jagen the mage buster as a build?

Report

I use Jagen only as a fortify cavalry fodder and saw a couple of meme builds of him, so I don't know if I'm the right person for that topic. Here are my basic observations after looking at the hero list here.

1) His stats are kind of bad and he's only 1 res better than Mathilda, which has otherwise much better stats than him.

2) These lance cavaliers will require DC if you want them to be full-flegged mage counters. They can work as a magic wall, but actually countering a mage and killing them in return is much better than just stopping the blow and potentially opening yourself to further punishment.

3) Berkut's lance exists, which means that you can make even some of the mid-tier res cavaliers (like Peri) into decent mage tanks.

If I would have to go for a Jagen build, it would probably just be the one recommended on his hero page here.

The only downside to these is that most of the time, blue cavaliers are angled to be offensive powerhouses. I’ll see what the dice roll me in terms of calvary blues and go from there, more so since the Jagen I have is -res.

Jagen is an extremely good mage tank, and when given Distant Counter, can deal some serious damage on counterattacks with something like Iceberg or Glacies. I have someone on my friends list with a +7 Jagen with Berkut's Lance, Glacies, Distant Counter, and Quick Riposte. 42 resistance, 49 on enemy phase, and he has the ability to effectively run ploys.

L'Arachel is also a good unit for mage tanking, and because of her weapon type she doesn't need the super expensive Distant Counter.

Walhart is a great option if you're looking for a strong tank that's not too hard to build.
He is a bit hard to use, but a monster if pulled off well.
Go for fury, chill def and close def seal.

Of course, he can't go beyond +2 now, so if looking for a merge project Fredrick is a better choice.

Jagen is fun and all, but some magic damage in your team might do some good. L'Arachel might be the best for allround magics.

Walhart’s job it to stand inbetween Lyn and everything that wants to stab her, hence why she has shove - she’s basically moving him infront of her. Plus, I love Walhart mountains more than Fredrick, so I went with Walhart.

In that case, I think I might look for a L’Aracheal then, since she can renewal heal with ardent sacrifice or Reciprocal aid to keep Reinhardt and Walhart going. Thanks for your help!

If you're looking for a good green cavalier then I will recommend a classic in Blade Tome Cecilia. She's an easy, reliable option and is pretty much the standard in green Cavs for Horse Emblem. Plus, she can magic check opponents your other team members may struggle against.
