Mixed tank W!Chrom build?

I pulled a +res/-hp Chrom which I'm pretty happy with. I can't decide a build though. If I upgraded his weapon, should I go for the recommended and do +def or do +res to bring his defences to 35/36? Would it only really be worth it if I had distant counter? And would it be better to change to slaying axe as is recommended? What would a good build for a balanced tank be while still keeping his offensive capabilities?
