Merric?

So...

Does this mean that Merric's Excalibur will be getting the Giga Excalibur refine...?

"Grants Spd +3. If unit's Spd > foe's Spd, boosts damage dealt by 70% of difference between stats. (Maximum bonus of +7 damage combos with Phantom Spd.)"

I'm honestly a bit confused with this, to be honest. I mean.. with a speed boon, Giga Excalibur (if that is gonna be the refine), Fury 3 and Speed +3 seal, he'd get up to 44 speed, and it can increase higher with ally buffs, but it seems kinda odd that they'd give it to a character that's not really... all that fast, I guess?

Maybe I'm missing something?

If it's the same tome, I can see why they would make it available, but not why anyone would choose to use it. You can add plenty of skills that don't work at all through SI. You can give Nino infantry pulse if you want to. Wouldn't work very well, but you could do it.

Yeah, I'm hoping that it'll be similar to how Awakening users have two different Falchion refines. Maybe Merric will have two different Excalibur refines...

I just hope it's not gonna be something that doesn't really fit his unit. I've had this +Spd Merric for a while, and it'd be really cool to finally use him with confidence, but.... eh.

I might feel better about just using one of his Excalibur refines, or giving him Dark Excalibur for +10 AoE damage, to be honest.

Pseudo wo dao effect helps his bad attack, cooldown acceleration is always good. You could use phantomspeed to make sure the effect always happens. Although he wouldn't be top tier, he can at least be fairly usable!

It explicitely says it's effect is subject to Phantom Speed, so add a free +10 to the speed comparison and it's far less pointless.

But it's a bit weird that they'd make this refine (if it is the refine) with the sole purpose of running it with Phantom Speed, at least in my opinion.

If Nino isn't faster than Merric I'll agree it's a weird tome that was clearly designed to be ran with Phantom Speed, however, if she is faster I'm more inclined to believe the phantom speed thing was added to up it's usefulness on Merric rather than designed to be a "required" combo. (Assuming that Giga is Merric's new refine anyway).

Also you could run Darting Blow or Brazen Atk/Spd over fury to up Merric's speed/offense more.

I'm hoping that Merric will get his own Asscalibur upgrade instead of just picking off leftovers from better heroes. He deserves better than that. Hopefully he'll get something that further plays into his anti-flier niche, which he barely fills now (sometimes struggling to kill blue fliers).

That's what I was kinda hoping for as well, which is why I was so confused when I first got Merric and saw that his Excalibur could be refined to Dark Excalibur, who's effect was so different from the base effect. That's when I realized that Sonya had it, which made it even more weird for me.

He might get his own effect and then the different weapon (giga calibur) afterwards. Just like lucina/chrom got the different version or Ephraim with flame siegmund. It would also be weird if Merric got Giga calibur on the same day as when it is released on Nino.

I hope it's an evolution and not the actual refine. He needs help with speed sure but most of all he needs help with damage
