Merging Question

Okay, so I want to clarify something before I do some merging. I plan on making at least a lvl 40+2 Summer Gaius and I'm still rolling for a +Atk Summer Gaius. I currently have 2 of him, and I was wondering what would happen if I merge them to make a lvl 40+1, and then later merge them into a normal Summer Gaius. Would it lead to a lvl 40+2? Or would it just reset to lvl 40+1? I hope this is a clear enough question...

It will be 40+2

Yes. Previous merges carry over as long as the units are the same rarity. If you merge a 5*+0 into a 5*+1 you will end up with 5*+2. If you merge a 5*+1 into a 5*+0 you still end up with a 5*+2.

Im pretty sure that it'll be 40+2 but you will start from the level of the receiver. So you might as well wait anyway. Just in case
