Merge effects questions

I'm wondering if merge levels follow the same pattern than 1-40 levels, meaning that merged characters have consistent attributes or is it RNG goodness FTW? I.E: I merged two Eirikas and got +1 Spd, +1 HP and some SP - assuming the same IVs, would this be consistent with other merged Eirikas?

Also, I've read somewhere that merge levels are capped at +10?

I don't know about the first part of your question, but yes the cap is +10 for merging.

Merging caps at +10 yes, you get a total of +4 in all stats once you reach +10. You get +1 in two stats every merge. You will loose all merging bonus levels if you increase the stars of the unit.
