LHB vs CYL- please explain CYL interest

I haven't been playing all that long (just this year since SWFC was closed), and thus wasn't around for last CYL.
I'm F2P and amassed a good amt of orbs; I get the pros/cons of Legendary banner but I don't understand the CYL hoarding...
CYL is "just" going to be new versions of Ike, Lyn, Roy & Lucina? But there's no guarantee that they will be any good, right? Is the hoarding due to interest in characters or am I missing something?

No, there's no guarantee that they will be any good, but it's a near guarantee that they won't be bad.

Oh and this time around the characters are Hector, Ephraim, Celica, and Veronica

Yeah, assuming an even color spread, 3% for maybes versus 8% for BIG wants/ needs you can see where i'm leaning

The last time CYL units came out, they were metabreaking and changed a lot in the game such as the increased BST scores. Lyn came out over a year ago and is still commonly seen in Arena. BIke's Steady Breath skill is seen in over half of the defensive builds on this site so yeah.

I'm guessing most people are assuming the CYL banner this year will be to the same effect and might be metabreaking as well, so theyre saving their orbs for this.

TY2! Yeah when I joined I took the free Lyn (very lucky choice) and can see why she's 1* (until recently)... My play style doesn't love the SB, but I can appreciate it. I'm pretty consistently T19 arena, and it'll just take patience to have enough merges for T20.

I'm certainly not questioning others decisions, but wanted to make sure I understood the motivation... While I've been pretty lucky overall, I never got any Hectors, and am pretty weak in green overall, so that was a big factor (and I want W!Tharja; armor diversity.....)
About 120 orbs later I'm @ 2xB!Ike, 1xLeif and 1xNewHector, so I am certainly not mad at myself...

Still have over 100 orbs left; i'm sure i'll pull more but good for now
