Leo not terrible anymore?

I have a Leo that I haven’t used since last March, and I made the possibly unwise choice of spending coins and dew on his new refinement and it’s +effect.

I don’t think he’s top tier, but does this make him viable ranged bait? I’m thinking of sacking a spare celica for DD and putting the DD seal on him. He’s -res, but DD skill and seal bring him to 38 so that’s no big deal, and he’s +def so the boon helps his weapon effect.

I just want to know if I should continue or if I’d just be wasting a lot of resources.

Edit: just ran him thru KageroChart. It doesn’t have his refinement yet, but these results look really good, and can only improve with the refinement.

If I run him in a cavalry team or with tactic skills I think he’ll be a defensive bait monster.

Since hes plus def. I think atk res bond (a lil expensive) is good on him. But ye distant def is good, but jut make sure to buff his atk as much as possible. But as a whole leo isnt very good and you should at least wait till other people theorycraft builds for him and see how good he is.

When in doubt jus use fury tbh.

Leo wasn't terrible, he was just horribly outclassed by Eirika when she became the next Red Tome Cavalier, and even then he can perform a roll that she can't.

Putting Distant Defense on him is good especially considering he can have even more defense thanks to Def Tactic/Fortify Cavalry.

As far as if you should do it or not, I can't really answer that. If you feel like it's a waste of resources, then don't do it. Some people find making Florina a super good mage bait by giving her Distant Counter is a good idea while others don't, so it's up to you.

As someone who owns and uses Leo quite regularly, I was really disappointed with his refinement.

Sure, he got the gravity+ upgrade and he did get a chance to have a dazzling effect added on, but when compared to units like Elise and Genny, who can naturally run a full dazzling effect on their staff in addition to the gravity+ (and a wrathful B), Leo is still vastly outclassed by healers in that role.

If anything, I’d recommend using him in a horse team with a bladetome, as that is really his only saving grace right now. It was the only way I knew to give him offensive power since doubling requires QR and he can’t kill most greens in one player phase round with just Brynhildr.

Owning two Leos, I did my own theorycrafting on him yesterday. He has an interesting niche now as a mage baiter, but he has two issues I feel. First, the build needed to really make him shine is pretty pricey and requires at least one of several 5 star limited A skills. Second, essentially what he has become is a better, but limited range baiter. Manaketes and armor remain better in that role. If you like Leo and want to invest in him, go ahead, but if you're talking about min/maxing your resources for Arena, I'd personally just slap a Blade Tome on him and call it a day, as he'll be able to deal with a wider range of threats.
