I'd do so. I always liked him for being a red cavalry mage. He can run unique builds and is a very interesting option to go for. At least for me, I tend to like everything which can be special.

As a user of Leo myself, my advice is absolute: Blade tome all the way.

Report

Not for how I use my Leo.

Eirika hits hard and fast, but she’s fragile. Leo, when he gets CC, will become a deadly tank against armored units and slower units in general. He’s guaranteed to double and kills anything I need him to.

Plus with a refinement by itself, he is essentially a worse Elise.

Report

Doesn't the refinement rather make him a ranged Sigurd? His tome-effect is fully changed.

I could actually imagine something good with Fortress Def for it.

Report

He’s a worse version of Sigurd and Elise with a refinement.

His damage reduction is less. And running fortress def takes his base attack from 43 to 40 (weapon included), and against a lot of foes, that would do little to nothing since he is way too slow to dream of making follow ups against the majority of units. He only prevents follow ups in some cases, whereas Elise can be used to nullify any counterattack altogether.

A bladetome at neutral attack fully buffed will let him hit for 73 magic damage, before considering skills Leo runs. Death blow and an attack seal push that player phase value to 82, enough to kill any green unit he faces, just about every red and colorless unit, and a large number of blue units. You put him with a refinement, and he will fail to kill any blues, a majority of reds, and a lot of green units he should have been able to kill in one hit running a blade. The blade gives him power, the refinement just makes him a budget Sigurd/Elise hybrid. To really make him a magic stopper, you’d have to give him deflect magic 3. And that still doesn’t stop strong physical units with DC from slaughtering him. The blade is his best bet to ensure he never has to fight DC users because they would already be dead when Leo fired off.

I still don't see Elise here...

I admit: his damage reduction is lower than Sigurd's. But he practically cancels all doubles he could get, as most ranged threats, except for the likes of Robin and Halloween Jakob, have suckish Def. His Brynhildr lets him take only one hit and even decreases the damage of this one hit. This makes him a very effective ranged tank. Taning even less damage than Sigurd after all.

Additionally, he also has QR by default. With DD, QR and a good A slot (why not Fierce Stance?), he can actually TANK most enemies, and kill many of them. Best of it: he can be run in most teams, as he does not necessarily needs class buffs. Sure, he is not an offensive powerhouse, but you can also turn most other cavalry mages into one. But he is a great ranged tank. There are not too many units alike and none of them has his unique weapon.

Neutral IVs is good on any unit.

You could go for blade tome but the optimal IV for a blade tome on leo is +atk so he can one shot most units. so a neutral IV leo can work with a blade tome but he won't kill that much compare to a +atk leo.

But if you want an enemy phase Leo then keep all of his kit, special refine his weapon give him Fury and Distant defense seal(so the special weapon effect will have more chances to take effect.)
